well said, syracuse has to do what it thinks is right for their program, but having said that this is the best place for syracuse with their natural rivals. dr. gross might be in for a surprise, louisville, pitt, and west va can play. and usf has outrecruited the cuse the past couple of years. i'm not sure what his agenda is by calling out the conference but we'll have a great time proving him wrong this year and the years to come :D

Perfectly summed up. If anything Penn State would be far better and more national if they had stayed with their Eastern partner-rivals.

That was actually a combination of this rumor and a rumor on an ECU board. Funny how twisted everything can get in about a week.

So very true...of course, out of every 50 there is that 1 guy or girl that is being honest with what they know/heard. The Norte Dame scheduling agreement for example...that was broken before it happened.
Of course, this isn't the only hot rumor...the other one I've heard recently is that the ACC is once again seriously looking at expanding to 14. Syracuse was indeed one of the teams mentioned as "interested". But is it true? Guess it is up to the reader.
As of today, my team is about 3 weeks from joining SU in a conference. I'll wait till later to worry about further conference realignment...although it is fun to debate about :D

Unfortunately Syracuse fans are going to get ripped for those comments, if true. The Big Ten isn't going to be expanding anytime soon, and if they do they're going to want someone like Notre Dame. Missouri was talked about for awhile but they have no interest in adding anyone of the Northeast. Just because someone wants to go somewhere doesn't mean they're going there, and the Big Ten isn't going to pick up Syracuse so hopefully the Syracuse fans don't get ripped for the comment of one person.

Well, he is the Miss Cleo of the Cuse Rivals Board. He makes lots of predictions and says lots of things, none of which are true. We'll see if he ends up getting sued by multiple states just like Cleo did when she got shut down!

"if they had stayed"? I didn't know they were ever together. From that article that Jackson posted a month or so ago, Penn State tried for years to get an Eastern league going. Instead the head honcho (name??) chose to go with Providence & Seton Hall instead. I think dissing PSU for those two might be the biggest blunder in college sports.

Not that I care much, as a lifetime Mountaineer fan and a Memphis graduate, Penn State lost its competitive advantage in football when it joined the Big Ten. Penn State would be better served to come back home to the East. Let Syracuse go, if they want, trade for Penn State. Then let Notre Dame continue its dreaded non-conference affiliation tailspin.

Wish UofM would get in the Big East but that to me is only a pipe dream which doesn't really make sense geographically. The way I look at the New C-USA is: When served up lemons make lemonade.

Good Luck to all in the New Big East (even the UofL). Even though I believe they are going to find it a little tougher than the media and they think it will be to win the conference in football. They will find the going tough in one critical game in Morgantown.

D'Angelo is D'Man (if you get a chance to see him play you will know what I mean).

The simple answer would be Jim Bayheim (sp?).

When the ACC went after Miami, Boston College, and Syracuse, Syracuse said "Yes" and then "No" because of Jim Bayheim.

Syracuse could have been in the ACC. Syracuse said, "No."

I'm telling you guys, the BIG EAST very well could have the last laugh in all of this realignment crap.

Boston College
Syracuse
UCONN
Rutgers
Penn State
Pittsburgh
Maryland
West Virginia
Cincinatti
Louisville

That's a league just begging to be formed.

Would be the #1 Basketball league bar none

Would be in the country's most lucrative market.

Would have legit BCS power.

It would be geographically compact in its own region.

For the life of me, I can't understand why this isn't already in the works.

Somehow, y'all have to get Penn State to switch. I believe the rest would fall in line.

And as cajun has pointed out consistently it is doable if you go about it with just the right strategy and all the data and projections.

Can you provide a source showing I am wrong?

Syracuse was invited to join the ACC.

Syracuse declined the invitation.

Bayheim was interviewed by ESPN and stated he was not interested in joining the ACC.

How am I wrong?

Boeheim was against being in the ACC, but Syracuase's old AD wanted Syracuse in the ACC...

Chess, I'm not so certain that Syracuse declined, but rather was left at the altar when Virginia was forced (by the VA legislature) to go to bat for Virginia Tech. If I recall (and I'll need to find it in some archives), when the "Virginia Tech" monkey wrench was introduced, the ACC (in the summer) voted to accept VT and Miami, but declined on Syracuse and BC.

Mongo; you are completely correct. But in a way chess is also correct. The acc was forced to take VT and Miami, whiles Cuse and BC were not invited. After the acc contested the rule about a conference has to have 12 members in order to host a championship game and lost, and since the acc was only at 11 members with VT and Miami, they needed a 12th member. But the acc had already agreed to not disturb the BE again.
BC, after learning that the BE had changed their minds about splitting called the acc and begged to get in.

When the Cuse chancelor learned of the acc once again talking to a BE school, he confronted them, and Swofford said we did not contact any BE schools, but BC contacted the acc.

So Cuse probably could have been the 12th school if they really wanted to screw the BE, and double talk the BE the way that BC and VT did. But once they were originally spurned, they recommitted to the BE and kept their word.

I think it would be irresponsible for anyone to say that Syracuse is going to leave the Big East. It would, on the other hand, be niave to think it is not a reasonably strong possibility. If the Big 10 expanded they would obviously be a leading candidate, if not 'the' leading candidate excluding Notre Dame.
Should that happen the Big East needs to make a strong move in the Boston market with UMASS. It would be a 'project' move but by far the best on the board unless they want to go back to Florida.

Syracuse was never officially invited to join the ACC. The athletic directors recommended Miami, BC, and Syracuse and official visits were made to each school as a result. But Syracuse never received the minimum number of votes (7) from the presidents of the ACC member schools in order to be officially invited.

Therefore, one of your statements ("Syracuse was invited to join the ACC") is technically incorrect. Another ("Syracuse declined the invitation") is patently false.

That said, you are correct about Boeheim's opposition to the ACC.
