For all you panickers and ACC/ Big Ten wannabes. Here is how I see things thorugh my red tinted glasses.
1) Virginia Tech out- Louisville in
Ul can almost match VT's contibution to the conference right now. Give us a couple of years to expand the pizza box and garner some more Northeastern recruits and most, if not all, of you will be saying this was more than a fair trade for the Big East. Particularly, when you factor in the basketball side of the equation.
2) Boston College out- Cincy in
Once again Cincy is almost a match for BC now. They have been bowling 5 of the last 7 years I believe and should challenge for the conference championship just as much as BC did.
In basketball they more than make up BC's loss also. Give them a couple of seasons and I think most will vote this trade ended up in the Big East's favor.
3) Miami out - USF in
Here is the "big" loss. The Big East lost its "dominate" team. But is that really such a bad thing? Now, I can see any one of the Big East teams being capable of winning the football conference championship over the next few seasons. Recruits who might think Miami was going to win no matter what just might look elsewhere now.
Pitt looks like they are already swimming to the top to try to fill the void. Syracuse will be stepping up. Wv is certainly not regressing any. The Ville will be kicking tail and taking names. Uconn is climbing in a hurry. Rutgers is going to have the season they have been dreaming of one of these days. Cincy is rebuilding to challenge soon. USF is not about to be the conference doormat. ( I picked them 4th until their problems at DT. Now I am sliding them down to 7th until they prove they can stop the run this year.)
So The Big East lost its marquee school but gained a conference full of competitive teams that will be exciting to watch. You could make a case for any team to rise to the top over the next 4 years. I for one, am excited about our conference and can't wait to see how it develops over the next few years.
