Right now, the dollars are marginal, however, if they continue to grow, it may become an issue.

p.s. and that's what we're all working toward.

A profitable conference. It is what we all want.

Chasing BCS/TV contract money will only get us so far.

The other revenue stream that the SBC needs to focus on at least just as much as the football money is NCAA tourney units.

How do we get more?

First, we should pass the best scheduling standards possible to elevate the RPI numbers.

Second, when looking at possible expansion candidates, their basketball program has got to be the top consideration besides if they want to come.

I would rank expansion qualities as such:

1) They want to come here
2) Quality of basketball program
3) Play or will play FBS football
4) Location

Given that, these would be top candidates:

1)Utah State
2)New Mexico State
3)Louisiana Tech
4)UTSA
5)Texas State

Schools that rocket to the top if they want to go FBS:

Missouri State
Old Dominion

I think you've left the reservation here CN. We've got at least 10 conferences to jump before we become anything close to viable in hoops.

By the way, what's the PAC12's Basketball t.v. deal worth? Is it anywhere near $3.2 BILLION?....didn't think so.

You misunderstand.

We will never have a TV deal resembling anything like the major conferences.

NCAA tourney units do not get paid out per conference ranking. You have to win tourney games. That's it.

To win tourney games, you need a quality basketball program.

If the SBC cultivates the right environment for basketball success by smart scheduling and smart expansion, we can make HUGE strides in revenue for the league.

Utah State would be better than Missouri State and push with Old Dominion

I would love to get ODU if we went with an FCS move up. They have good basketball, good media market, and they are a former SBC member.

It may just be me, but I don't think UALR is going anywhere. Therefore I see a football only member in our future. I am not saying it is SJSU, but as football only member that has an international airport nearby travel could be worse.

FWIW I don't think a WAC merger is a good idea, unless Benson and Waters could get a really good TV deal.

You just pass a conference rule stating that all SBC members must sponsor football.

UALR has no control over adding football. They are in the University of Arkansas System, and there is no way that Arkansas would allow that to happen at the Division 1 level

However, you misunderstand me. To get any type of competitive seeding to 'win' these games, A.) you have to be more than a one bid conference and B.) your conference ranking has to be in the low teens at worst. Hence my comment that we have 10 conferences we need to leapfrog before we get the seedings which will allow us to compete for wins in that tournament.

Hoops, imo, is the icing on the cake; the real bread and butter of collegiate athletics is football. Example, do we really care about a mid-season hoops game involving Boise and Wisconsin? Probably not. But Boise v. Wisconsin in Football and it's WOW!...that's a heckuva match-up and will attract a large national audience.
