The Big East’s first move toward reinventing itself will be to try to add Navy and Air Force as football-playing members only — with the hope Army will then join — with Temple or Villanova as options as well, according to two college officials familiar with the league’s thinking.

They may change their tune regarding UCF/ECU/Houston once they realize that the Big XII is gonna take two of their stronger programs in very short order.

Even if the Big XII doesn't look to the Big East, the SEC is still going to need a 14th school, and given recent developments it won't be coming from the ACC.

Those who have followed the WAC's situtation know a conference has to have 8 full members playing FBS football to count as an FBS conference. There is a grace period if a conference falls below 8, but eventually the conference has to get back to 8 full members. The WAC's grace period begins July 1, 2012. The Big East, if no one is added, starts its grace period when Pittsbugh and Syracuse leave.

SEC "MIGHT" take a wait and see stance. No good 14 has emerged. Wouldn't be shocked if Slive isn't talking to TAMU offering to make their admission a part of the bylaws but ask them to wait 6 years or so (length of purported grant of right TV deal to hold B12 together) and revisit then to see if a 14 has emerged. Legally they are going to have to take TAMU but I suspect they would be happy if TAMU backed out.
