Big East Plan A
Posted on gomeangreen.com by Harry
The only Conference USA school the Big East is willing to consider at this point is Central Florida, although there continues to be resistance from South Florida on that. One official said that South Florida could eventually be persuaded to sign off on Central Florida if it was in the best interests of the league

A person familiar with Tuesday's meeting said the league presidents dismissed the idea of adding Conference-USA schools Memphis, Houston and East Carolina

If the Big-12 does what I think they will do, add BYU, Air Force, and TCU, the Big East will have no choice but to pull the trigger on Temple and UCF for all sports and probably ECU and Navy football only.

Big XII will not add Air Force and/or TCU. BYU is, however, a possibility.

The Big XII has publicly stated, repeatedly, that IF they expand it will be outside their current footprint.

Yeah, but that was before the threat of so much defection and the threat of the Big XII's survival. They need teams to ensure the survival of the league now.

RE: Big East Plan A
If the Big XII were seeking to maximize their league, they would take three of Louisville, Cincinnati, TCU and BYU or go to 14 by taking all of those and adding West Virginia.

Right now though I think there is a degree of hesitation to destroy another league up at the top. Because of that, Big XII may add but one and probably go after BYU.

The whole ballgame right now is the SEC. They've stepped in a turd if they can't get Florida State, Va.Tech, Oklahoma or even Missouri to be #14. They've got the unpalatable options of going after Louisville or West Virginia or staying at 13 totally messing up scheduling.

If West Virginia or Louisville is their choice, the Big East moves from simply adding Air Force and Navy for football only to fighting to live. If the SEC somehow gets Florida State onboard the ACC is coming after UConn or Rutgers.

Until the SEC gives us a definitive idea of what they are doing every thing remains in flux.
