Goals with scheduling
I was going to respond on a previous page about a Boise St game at Huskie Stadium, but thought it deserved a separate thread..
Toledo should be who schedule wise we should be copying...
Almost a Fresno St of years past (anyone anytime).
I think it serves two purposes:
1. Program Recognition
2. Recruiting
Toledo scheduling since 2008
2008: @Arizona, Fresno State(home game), @Michigan
2009: @Purdue, Colorado(home), Ohio St(home)
2010: Arizona(home), @Purdue, @Boise St, Wyoming(home)
2011: @Ohio St, Boise St(home), @Syracyse
2012: @Arizona, @Wyoming
2013: @Florida, @Missouri, Navy(home)
2014: Missouri(home), @Iowa St
2015: Miami(FL)(home), Iowa St(Home), @ Navy
A lot of 1&1s, 2&1s, with teams but not great teams(Ohio St is the exception but that is more in-state rivalry than anything else)
I also think the fact that their stadium looks like a collegiate stadium(as opposed to Huskie Stadium that could be mistaken for a large High School Stadium) has something to do with it also.
I like the schedule setting up the future
Army(1&1) and @kansas(1&1) plus a soldier field game is good...not sure where Cal Poly fits in..
2012: second half of Army/kansas 1&1, plus SF(Iowa) and UT Martin(again not sure where it fits)
2013: @Iowa, @Purdue(but don't see a game against purdue in the future, and purdue isn't good enough to make a SF game for)
2014: @Wake Forest(major conference at least, but don't see a second game in the future @NIU)
2015: @Ohio St(possible SF opponent)..
But if you compare schedules out til 2015 Toledo is leaps and bounds better in terms 1&1s(unless they aren't showing up).
I would like to hear the NIU AD come out and be honest and say "We offer 1&1s and even 2&1s, but nobody will come here for reason 1,23" Then at least we could work on fixing 1,2,3 or at least be aware of it.
