Special Teams more so then defense
Although there has been a lot said on the defense... I think the special teams specifically kick off coverage was terrible..
Beshears averaged 28.1 yds per return.. That is just unacceptable. 7 returns for 198 yards.
That last drive they never would have scored on had he not returned the ball 68 yds to our 47.. They would have ran out of time.
Special Teams is easier to fix then defense..
Kansas started on our side (47,49) twice. Only behind the 20 on their side once.
Defense isn't great. Delegal got a little better, Bass isn't progressing at all. Not a good sign when our 3 safeties are the teams leading tacklers. Hopkins was bad 13 carries 47 yards is unacceptable.
And though our offense was great, play calling wise it is terrible.. When Akeem daniels is rb, then we throw and don't run.

Opportunities abound and getting better on Kick Of coverage is one of our biggest opportunities.

Was thinking the same-
-Kickoffs were awful
-Coverage & tackling was awful. (Especially the last one which may have .....Well we'll never know.)
-I would like to see Akeem Daniels instead of Davis as the main return guy.
He is wicked quick.

+1 We were blessed with great kicking for decades! But now, this is a problem that needs fixing- quick.

It would not have mattered if Kansas started at midfield or at their 1. Our defense wasn't going to stop them.

Actually, Beshears returning that kickoff all the way at the end would have been the best thing to happen for the Huskies. Chandler would have had a chance to win the game for us at the end.

I disagree.. amount of time left was a factor..driving 47 yards vs 80 yards is a big difference.

Their last drive lasted 4:40 with 11 plays ran because they were trying to eat up the clock so our offense couldnt get back on the field.

???
They ran the clock down to 9 seconds and stopped themselves a few times around the five yard line, and went to 4th down before scoring as a ploy to run down the clock! Wow, they are gutsy and good!

When the kickoff goes only to the 10 and your coverage is barely at the 25 you are in trouble.
Didn't the Coach say this position was decided early?
What the f.. was he looking at.

Maybe a squibb kickoff instead?
He did kick a couple to about the 5 yard line IIRC, but it needs to be there way more often.

yes it was a very gutsy call by Gill. I agree it would have been a lot harder if the kickoff coverage had been better, but I was just pointing out they had around 5 minutes to move the ball.

RE: Special Teams more so then defense
I think Sims went down on purpose at the three to set up second and three. But can't believe they planned a 3 yard loss to set up 3rd and 6 ... maybe they were playing for 3rd and 1 or to just run it in at that point. Had we been able to pressure Webb on 4th down like we did on 3rd down, he may not have completed the TD pass to Beshears and all of a sudden going down on purpose at the 3 on 1st down looks foolish.

Simply put, the special teams defense play like crappola and were a big reason for the loss, namely the last return.

How about our RBs that made 55 yards on 17 carries ... 3.2 ypc? I think had we run the ball a bit better we could've had some longer drives that could've given the defense more rest. It's great when you have the ability to score in 5 plays on many drives, but it's not great when you give the ball back to the other team quickly.
