Not surprising since he's from here. It's a shame he couldn't have gone to NT, he'd have made a superb backup for Dunbar.

Put down the pipe.

Dunbar likely is the more physically gifted back, but beyond the fact that Tanner has an "it factor" that most players just don't have, Tanner is too good of a player to have been benched in favor of a player two classes beneath him.

In fairness, the game that he really went off on UNT was in Murfreesboro...

RE: Phillip Tanner
Both Derek Newton (OT - Texans) and M.D. Jennings (S - Packers) made the 53-man rosters.

Jennings was an undrafted FA and was consistently called undersized, but stood out in camp. During the preseason games, he had two onside kick recoveries, an interception, a sack, led the team in tackles in week 2 or 3, and was noted for his hard-hitting.

Tanner would have been the featured back until he graduated, but they would have made a great one two punch...but no arguing the fact that Tanner made the right choice.

Tanner is in the NFL and two classes ahead...he would have been the starter.

I like what I see from Tanner. I'm not sure how much PT he'll see, but I like his attitude and enjoy seeing fellow sun belt players succeed at the next level, no matter what school they're from. Go Cowboys!
