Really, really pleased with our attendance seeing as how there is a tropical depression out in the gulf. It poured several times yesterday. Last rain shower was about an hour to kickoff, then all of the sudden, it cleared up and ended up being a very comfortable night.

The weather was perfect for the game. I dont think it got over 80 degrees! I dont think i have ever been to a Sept football game that had better weather. Had a nice cool breeze for a lot of the 1st half.

I was supprised by the attendance as well, i really didnt think that many people would show up! It was nice to see UWA bring a few hundred fans down as well.

I was speaking to someone about the attendance that works in the athletic department and while they were pleased with the turnout considering the weather, they were planning for a much bigger turnout. An hour before kickoff it was pouring at my house.

RE: Thursday Night Attendance
I saw some of both games and neither appeared to have even close to the number posted. The schools - expecially FIU - are either using tickets dispensed or hot air to inflate these figures.

The FIU crowd even sounded small, and South Florida was pummeled by heavy rain in the hours before and even during the game.

Don't know if you are refering to South or not, but i believe South had 21k. Over 3/4 of the home side was full (only the upper corners not filled). I was on the "visitor" side/student side. I couldnt tell how many were on that side, but it looked close to half... may have been less. Then probably a few hundred in the endzones. I think the home/visitor sides hold about 30k and the endzones hold 10k. So 21k is a close to realistic # i think...

I didnt not get to see anything fromt he FIU/NT game... but as mentioned in another thread, the only tickets you can get for FIU games is season tickets, so the big away teams (UCF...) probably had to buy season tickets ($40) to get tickets to their game. so probably 2-3k of those were Duke/UCF fans that didnt even think twice about showing up for the game.

I saw MSU@FAU "home" game last season, and it didn't appear to be even close to Florida. 05-stirthepot

:youmoron: are you friggin serious... that is the most retarded thing I have ever heard if it's true!!!!! That will never up their attendance or fan base. Plus I wouldn't think the NCAA would allow that for visitors, because you have to put aside so many tickets for away teams, you can't make them buy season tickets, to screw your fans is one thing, but to screw the visiting teams... that blows!!!

Trust me, NONE of us wanted that. I cant begin to tell you how many Michigan State fans were pissed because they had to cancel thier "vacation" trip to Florida because the stadium want done.

That game was supposed to be in the new stadium, when that couldnt happen FAU did the best they could and that was have it in Detroit. I dont belive that Pro Player (or whatever the hell they call it now) was available due to a Canes game.

I thought you had a great student turnout last night from what I saw. That is the trend ALL of our schools need to have. Didnt get to see how the "home" side looked.

NCowl, I assume you already bought your FIU season tickets so you can see the FAU@FIU game.

I know owlfamily, just trying to help bmarkey off his high horse with that comment. Yeah, student turnout was really good despite having to clear the stadium a couple of times because of lightening warnings.

just thought I would put this in just in case we might be considered for SB.

"But Cobb said he would want to spend to expand the stadium to 35,000 seats if the school jumps to the FBS.

some insight on some CAA schools also."

http://www.roanoke.com/sports/college/wb/297590

We are also installing 1500 seat temp bleachers this weekend in the North endzone.

I think the 35k mark is a good number, but it amazes me that some programs want to shoot for the 45-50k (not saying App.St is doing so) when they do not sell out regularly.

That 17,000+ attendance for the FIU-UNT game is, shall we say, slightly off. I attended the game and you "may" have had have had 3-4000 in attendance. But in all fairness the weather was not good.

Please......some of the guesstimates here are ridiculous and likely pain-induced. The only important and undeniable number here is not the attendance, but 41-16.

Yes we weren't anywhere near 17k, but there were more than 4k...

Question:

Was the real number closer to 17k or 4k?

As 'fanatic pointed out, the real number was 41-16. We will leave the battle for attendance championship to those who don't have a chance at the conference championship, can't win 'em all, right? 05-stirthepot
