Nightmare scenario for Big Twelve - What if?
What if................Missouri, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State followed A&M's lead and bolted along with the Aggies for the SEC?

Why not? The financial incentive is certainly there as there is no way the Big Twelve could possibly come close to the revenue that the SEC distributes.

Is there some reason that these four would not, or should not, make that move?

RE: Nightmare scenario for Big Twelve - What if?
there is a multitude of reasons this will not happen from both sides

1. the Big 12 has a guaranteed BCS spot.......1/9 = much easier path than 1/16.......and the max you can have from a single conference is 2....this will not change anytime soon.....so potential 1/8 is a lot worse than potential 1/4.5

2. the SEC west teams have zero interest in a near wholesale abandonment of their current conference mates for four new ones

3. there is no guarantee what type of additional TV money any team or groups of teams would bring.....I would imagine two of the teams in that group would be less attractive than a number of east coast teams

4. OU considers themselves a national brand....they have gotten there doing their thing not being a part of a huge group of teams....they do not need to panic at the first sign of conference shifts.....their place at the table and a large portion on their plate is secure

5. OU likes playing UT true they played OOC in the past in fact longer than in conference.....but going to a 16 team SEC in any fashion starts to limit how many extremely tough teams you want OCC year in and year out

6. TV money is only a very small fraction of overall athletics budget......you could take away 100% of the TV money from UT and they would still be one of the top 2 or 3 teams in revenue year in and year out....and that is because they play in big games in big cities against other big time teams at the end of the season in things called the MNC and BCS......repeat this for OU.....while hardly something to say "oh no" about.....look at the overall revenue picture of teams in the SEC that have not done the same thing in a number of years.....some are still very high....but the boost even for very financially successful SEC teams is noticeable the following years after major BCS games and MNCs.....just like TAMU will find out....taking your ass whippings like a man from good teams still means you got beat...when you have a poor record and few if any BCS games....no one cares about how good the teams were that beat you

7. all 4 of those teams represent mouths that feed in Texas for recruits......why not just one mouth or two max at the table that feed specifically in that area......and let some mouths that feed in other areas in as well

8. not sure MU likes the academics in the SEC....or the overall spending ect.

9. the CCG...MU was a CCG away from playing in the MNC in 2007.....they were number one in 2007 in week 14 with only a loss to OU.....and a stupid CCG against....OU.....away from playing in the MNC in 2007.....a loss in the CCG to OU knocked them out of the BCS entirely and sent KU (that had lost to MU) instead.....not sure MU or OU is really looking for another CCG.....especially in a 16 team SEC....where the chance to go to the CCG = 1/8......VS the Big 12 where the chance for the single guaranteed BCS spot is.....1/9......and the potential for any BCS spot is 1/4.5

I am sure there are plenty more as well...

Thanks MTPiKapp. I apologize as I had not read this earlier post suggesting basically the same potential situation.
I feel relieved that no posters wasted any time replying to this redundant question.

Just thought that if you didn't get the replies you were looking for in this thread, you might want to check that one out if you hadn't already seen it. Our line of thinking is similar regarding the future of the Big XII.

In five years, at least one of the Big XII and Big East will no longer exist, it's entirely possible they both could be gone.
