UC’s Day One Ready Campaign Reaches $100M Goal Early
Pretty damn awesome if you ask me...

Quote:The University of Cincinnati’s athletic department has beaten its $100 million fundraising goal and well before its target date.

UC’s Day One Ready Campaign to raise funds so UC’s 450 student-athletes can compete for championships as the Bearcats enter the Big 12 Conference this year has topped the $100 million mark nine months before its original target, UC spokesman Zach Stipe told me.

UC had originally targeted raising the money by July 2024.

Larry and Rhonda Sheakley, Union Township's Total Quality Logistics and Dave and Wendy Herche are among the largest donors. Other large donors include Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce, who played at UC and has garnered a boatload of national attention recently for his relationship with musician Taylor Swift.

UC received 17 gifts of $1 million or more in the campaign. It received donations from more than 11,000 people. The Sheakleys made what UC called “a transformative gift” to provide much of the financing for the facility. It's the largest gift in UC athletics history. Larry Sheakley is owner and CEO of Springdale-based human resources and employee benefits company Sheakley Group.

Much of the campaign’s money will go toward construction of an indoor practice facility and performance center UC is building on campus. That project’s cost could go as high as $134 million, according to the most funding approved by the UC board of trustees.

Maybe Taylor Swift will kick in a few bucks.

My daughter tells me she has some friends who were planning to dress as Taylor Swift for Halloween, so know they are buying Travis Kelce jerseys and fake mustaches for their husbands to wear.

As much as I hate Kelce as a Chief and his post game douchieness, the dude is a huge asset for UC athletics.

Estimated NIL spends for the 23/24 school year:
$595M in P5 college football
$212.5M in P5 mens college basketball
$95.5M in all other P5 college sports

Averaging that out over the 69 P5 schools and you get over $13M per school. And it's only gonna grow from here.

UC better keep the fundraising rollin.

I just looked, no Cincy Light at the Minster Oktoberfest. Opportunity missed.

Is it true UC/Nike replica Kelce jerseys have sold out too?

What, work during an Oktoberfest instead of enjoying it? What kind of madness is that?

Note to self: Never try driving through Minster on Oktoberfest parade day ever again. Every parking space on every street was taken.
