The SBC needs its premiere team. The WAC has Boise State, the SEC has Auburn/Alabama, and so on. Is FIU ready to fill that void? I personally think they can't. This isn't a shot at FIU or any other Belt team. I'm just asking.

Many programs in the Belt have improved their coaching staffs. Combine that with more favorable OOC schedules (fewer body bag games) across the conference, and I think at least one other team could finish with 7 wins or more.

Someone would step up. That's how it works. One game can turnaround a season....for good or bad.

I think he was implying that no one could really go on a four plus year run like UNT and Troy have. I think it's possible, but highly unlikely. And my opinion has nothing to do with the idea that everyone else sucks, but rather the idea that the sunbelt's pretty evenly matched top to bottom. I don't think you're going to see any team that's heads and tails better than the rest for a while.

Every conference shakes up cyclically. Big 12 with Texas and OU and Nebraska, SEC with Florida and Alabama, Pac 10 with USC - Oregon. Just add a couple of losses onto the top team for the SBC because of OOC play.

No one cares who wins the SBC. UNT goes undefeated in conference play forever and gets no recognition, because they can't beat teams from outside the conference. The SBC doesn't benefit from a team going undefeated in conference play (or close to it) unless there are significant OOC wins included.

The league will get more recognition as a whole if there are 4+ teams regularly making big splashes in OOC play.

RE: The Sunbelt Braces For The Fall Of Troy
Part of the problem is that unlike other non aq conferences, we don't have a bowl tie in with a lower tier aq school. We need to be tied in to play the Big 10 number 8 or the SEC number 10 or whatever (don't know exactly what would work best). We have been winning some games against other non aq's but winning most of them every year sure would help. We should win our games against the lower aq schools when we get a chance regardless of the bowl situation too. As has been stated; It doesn't matter who wins the conference as long as all of our teams start winning ooc games. One good thing about Troy dominating so much is that it will force the other teams to step up their game and that will help in ooc play but what we don't need is a conference champ that dominates and a conference full of teams that can't win outside of it. :soapbox:
