Within 5-10 years, UTSA will be the best expansion option in the WAC. Even if they stink as an FBS football team, the market of San Antonio will make them more attractive then even a good LA Tech in Ruston, and LA Tech will be back to where they are today, trying to find FCS football programs and rebuilding the WAC.

Please, that shot at the Belt from the Tech AD was directed at one school that is 30 miles down the road from them. Let's make one thing clear, La Tech will never be in the same conference as ULM period. They would rather be an Indy or a member of the WAC that sucks than be associated with ULM ever again.

And if you saw the APR post I made, it's totally off-base.

You are not understanding what La Tech's AD was saying. It was not an insult to the Sunbelt but a shot at ULM. I mean lets be honest here ULM's latest APR results and the number of sports who failed to meet the rolling average and received sanctions is PATHETIC!

I don't care what school it would have been from the Belt, it is an embarrassment for the conference. Nearly 50% of the teams fielded by the school received some sort of sanction for APR related reasons.

I would be furious if I were a fan of ULM, and the university allows this to happen. That to me is a lack of commitment to your student athletes, not providing them with enough academic support. I would not make such comments as this if it had been one sport, but the magnitude of APR infractions across the board and the number of sports tells me that the department itself is struggling. I hope they can fix this problem and soon, because I would much rather see them successful that La Tech and you can't win when you don't have schollys available.

I'm with you. ULM needs to step it up.

However, my point was to say LA Tech just had APR problems as well as UTSA, Idaho, NMSU, and SJSU. So calling out a member of the Sun Belt and make it a generalized comment about the Sun Belt as a whole is a dick move.

Kind of like how most on this board generalize that all Tech fans would be against a move to the Sun Belt? I have no problem with Tech joining Sun Belt, but then again I have no say in what LaTech's school administrators want. Some of yall actually must care about what Tech has to say otherwise you wouldn't be bringing them up so often and take the time to bash them instead of just ignoring them

RE: denigrating the conference
Couple of years ago Tech did have APR issues in Mens BBall. Tech fired that coach and Coach Rupp corrected the issue.

That coach is now head coach at ULM.

RE: denigrating the conference
I am not totally clear on how the APR thing works, but I beleive the new sanctions that ULM was recently hit with were based off of numbers submitted prior to 2010-1011. Needless to say, the administration expected the sanctions that flowed at that time and have already placed wheels in motion to correct these issues. For example, if you do somewhat follow SBC recruiting on the whole, you will see that for football ULM is not and will not offer scholarships to players that are not academically qualified. Further, to avoid the risk totally, ULM is not offering JUCO players. In basketball, ULM is forced to move towards players that actually go to class. The sanctions that our basketball program has recevied are all from things done prior to the hiring of Richard. I believe our new president has given our AD and all of our coaches orders with respect to fixing the problems.

Once again, I would like to advise everyone that ULM has acknowledged the things that have allowed it to underperform in the past. We are correcting those problems and are investing in our programs and infrastructure. This is not the same ULM athletics department that you have grown to hate and mock over the years. Come the academic year of 2011-2012, the SBC will see a more serious approach to intercollegiate athletics by ULM (save men's basketball as with limited scholarships we are going to get waxed all year).

I am putting it on the books right now:

Football - ULM will finish in the top 3 in the SBC in 2011
Women's Basketball - ULM will finish in the top 4 in the SBC in 2011-2012
Baseball - ULM will finish in the top 3 in the SBC in 2012

So, let's please move on with this talk about ULM folding, ULM not being able to sustain FBS status, etc. I believe the financial books tell the story that we are not losing money on an annual basis. Further, the books are showing that we are funding enhancements that are beneficial to both athletics and academics. The student vote against the student fee was a blow, but not as big a blow as observers think. We will just finance our endeavors another way.

Let's just relax guys, enjoy the offseason and find a way to kill the freakin' WAC. The worse thing we can do is allow the WAC to continue to linger on life support. Regardless of how much the SBC is actually better than the crippled WAC, public perception will still find more value in the WAC name than that of the SBC.

Football: A top 3 finish is certainly possible. I think ULM could certainly contend for the title this year.

WBB: ULM will finish in the top 4? Of the Western Division maybe, but I don't know about overall. ULM can probably finish in the top 6, but top 4 might be pushing it. First of all, ULM will not finish ahead of UALR or MTSU. Last year, if we apply tiebreakers, then UALR, MTSU, Denver, FIU, WKU, and ASU all finished ahead of ULM, with USA only 1 game back. So that means that ULM finished 7th overall (4th in division) with USA right on their heels. This might not happen.

Baseball: You expect ULM to go from dead last (10th) to top 3 in baseball in one year? Unlikely.

Not uncommon in baseball. I expect MT to finish Top 3 in baseball next year. Cajuns finished 3rd in the nation one year, then did not make the SBC tourney the next. I believe they may have won the SBC the next season after not making the SBC tourney.

My comment wasn't that it was uncommon. I said it was unlikely. Ok, you expect MTSU to finish in the top 3 next year. That is one spot that ULM cannot occupy. Who do you see in the other top 2 spots? I certainly don't see ULM in one of them. Possible? Yes. Likely? I don't think so.

And I'm going out on the limb to say that they won't finish in the top 3 in any of those sports...just like last year.

You know the definition of German cuisine dont you?

Germans stand on the border of Italy and France with guns and say "So what are you cooking over there?"

Credit to Tim Allen on that one.
