maybe with the new arena we can improve our basketball team. then we can sweep the Conference and win all three major sports' Championships.

RE: Trojan Arena Video Tour (7/8/11)
UPDATE (July 11, 2011)

From the Dothan Eagle Troy Blog:
http://dothaneagletroy.blogspot.com/2011...arena.html

Here are some facts that you may or may not know
**It will host the offices for track, volleyball and, of course, men's and women's basketball.
**The south end will be the main entrance, and the north end some sort of VIP entrance
**There will be a concourse level and event level, and all seats will be accessed via the concourse level. So, it's like you're walking into a bowl.
**The basketball team will have a practice court, which you'll see in the photos.
**There will be a food court area.
**The seating capacity will be 5,600 for games.
**The seats on the north end are retractable so they can put a stage for graduation.
**They are on pace for an opening for the 2012-13 basketball season, but "The chancellor doesn't want this facility to be open until it's ready to be open. He doesn't want to do anything partial," Ingram said.
**The golf pro shop, which Ingram built in 1977, was recently torn down by Ingram and his crew. That area will be a drop-off point which will have a sidewalk to the arena.
**There's a press room and a press dining room. The press was well-considered in this facility, which is a good thing (and something WKU and FIU football ignored in their recent upgrades).

Here's a new rendering of Trojan Arena. It shows a tower plaza that leads to the entrance of the arena.

RE: Trojan Arena Updates- Running Thread
It sounds like (and judging by the renderings) it will be very nice, but why the small capacity? I know 5,200 is a lot to average for a sunbelt team, but shouldn't that be doable in the somewhat near future if sunbelt basketball gets it to where we want it to go? Basically what I'm asking is, are there at least plans for expansion once the need arises?

RE: Trojan Arena Updates- Running Thread
Recent articles put seating at 5,600. I think that's a great number. Why have a 11,000 seat arena when you only have 4k-6k attend on average? I haven't heard of any plans for expansion, but considering its not even finished I can understand why there aren't any plans.

RE: Trojan Arena Updates- Running Thread
Troy will never need an arena larger than 6,000 seats. We are in a small town in the middle of nowhere and our team doesn't draw a lot of out of town attendance. this isn't football, so I think we made a good decision on the size. I would rather have a packed house and run out of tickets than struggle to fill her up and it look empty.

Troy will likely never be a basketball school, furthermore, the schools that might spike interest are also not basketball schools. I feel confident that if Troy could land Alabama or Auburn at home for basketball they'd probably sell out 5,600, but I don't know that they'd sell out at 11,000. I just don't think the interest is there.
