RE: 4 Myths of the Crusades
It's just that if there was information that did NOT fit in with the bloggers personal viewpoint, it would not appear in the blog. You are definitely getting one point of view only.

I don't claim to know that much about it, but if I was going to learn about it, I probably wouldn't start with a blog (of any kind), that's all I'm saying.

Put your religion aside for a minute and riddle me this: Would you attempt to repel an aggressor, or would you lay down before him?

What did Jesus do? I think you will find your answer there.

The point is Christ didn't behave in that manner and his followers shouldn't sully his name to advance an agenda.

RE: 4 Myths of the Crusades
Isn't it great to be able to play armchair commander many centuries later?

See, this is easy! Peanut learned from Roberta. Just do what Bob always does - slam Christians. Now, Mr. P claims insinuates that the Muslims are not the problem but .........wait for it.......... the victims! They are still playing the victims to this day (CAIR anybody?), while they work to create their worldwide caliphate.

I'm betting that even Peanuts would (gasp!) try and protect himself if he saw his life flashing before him as the mob descended on him. All his bluster and yapping would mean exactly nothing. There is a diff between "turning the other cheek" and meekly being led off to slaughter by those whose stated aim is to kill the infidels.

Mr. Peanut comes up short in many ways but Jesus set the standard and he was meekly led off to slaughter without even uttering a defense. If you are at war for the cause of Christ you are a fool.

I would submit that if the story is true...Jesus was not meek. It would take incredible courage to die voluntarily for the sins of others.05-stirthepot

RE: 4 Myths of the Crusades
Some how history has been hijacked by moralists who have convinced the textbook writers that since atrocities had been committed by Christians during the Crusades, that the fact the Crusades were a response to Muslim expansion into the west's sphere of influence is somehow not true. Its like saying that since the US dropped the atomic bomb on Japan, they are somehow responsible for the start of WWII.

In general the history of the past was usually written by the winners....It appears in this case..not so much. I guess time also is a major factor.

I have a feeling that LOTS of historical BS is going to be debunked in the near future. The access to information at one's fingertips is now simply incredible and will increase with each passing day. History from this point onward is going to be very accurately described for anyone paying attention.

Sadly, history is NOT focused on the fact Japan attacked us.

Hell, we still don't make them acknowledge responsibility for starting the war. If you look at speeches by Japanese leadership at remembrance ceremonies and such, they never acknowledge their role in starting the war or Pearl Harbor. And we refuse to call them out on it. Instead, we go to memorial services for the "victims" of Hiroshima.

While you're spot on about the new ease of access to info (like pulling up documents in China from a campus in Wyoming), we're also going to more and newer bull**** theories, explanations, and bastardizations of facts. The truth will be out there, but now you'll have to dig through more to get to it.

Yes...or the US getting drawn into involvement in WWI instead of letting the Europeans settle their disagreements on their own. As time passes and the past events become more clear.....historians are beginning feel that this may have actually been the catalyst for WWII

Yes...but the truth WILL be there...not hidden. I submit that "competition" for truth will become a part of a new market paradigm. We already see this now emerging.... Market signals will...as they always have...drive the marketplace towards excellence.03-idea
