More offseason pointless time killing...
Some Sun Belt cities have had multiple names in their history(couldn't find anything to suggest prior names in Jonesboro or Denton) some of these names aren't exactly the same cities, some are areas in or around what would later become the present day Sun Belt cities, but I thought it would be fun to rename the schools and/or mascots based on their former name(s)
Bowling Green-Bolin Green
Fort Lauderdale-New River Settlement
Lafayette- St. Jean du Vermilionville
Little Rock-le Petite Roche
Miami-Biscayne Bay County
Mobile-Bay of the Holy Spirit, Mauvila, Fort Louis de la Louisiane
Monroe- Fort Miro
Murfreesboro-Cannonsburgh
Troy- Deer Stand Hill, Zebulon, Centreville

FAU's min campus is in Boca Raton not Ft. Lauderdale. Lockhart Stadium is in Ft. Lauderdale...about 15-20 minutes from campus.
BTW, Murfreesboro should have kept Cannonsburgh. That's an awesome name! MTSU should change their nickname to the Cannon's in honor of the city's history.

You are correct and I knew that too...momentary lapse.

Denton County and its county seat, the city of Denton, were named for John B. Denton, a pioneer preacher and lawyer who was killed in an Indian battle in 1841.
John B. Denton was born in Tennessee in July of 1806.

Without Tennessee, there would be no Denton.
Just think, UNT could be located in Stinking Creek, Texas, instead.

Personally, I think Troy should go back to being called Zebulon.

Troy, formerly Zebulon is in Pike county. Pikes Peak is named for Zebulon Pike. I assume there's some connection???

That's really interesting....I didn't know that.
It's too bad so many good Tennesseans wasted their lives for that state, and yet it still appears to be part of Mexico.

Without Tennesseans who wanted to get the hell out, there would be no Denton.
