Empty Seats Line Obama Fundraiser
Tuesday, 14 Jun 2011 11:59 AM

What if they threw a fundraiser and nobody showed up? It wasn’t quite that bad for President Barack Obama at a Miami fundraiser Monday. But it wasn’t that good either, Politico reports.

Even with tickets for the event starting at $44 a pop, the top level of the 2,200-seat concert hall at the Adrienne Arsht Center for Performing Arts was completely bereft of attendees, as were some seats on the second and third levels.

A Democratic official looked at the glass as half full. “"The expectation was 900," the official told Politico, and more than 980 tickets were sold.

During Obama’s speech, he was interrupted at one point by a protester repeatedly yelling, "Keep your promise, stop AIDS now." But audience chants of "Obama, Obama, Obama" quickly drowned the screamer.

Empty seats to listen to an increasingly empty suit. Seems about right.

I'm not sure SP woulda sold out in SoFL either. But people are more likely to see her for sheer entertainment... Least I would. Her accent and mannerisms make me giggle. :)

No but extending the Bush/Obama tax cuts, the Patriot Act, endless war, Gitmo etc are. His failure to take the lead on issue after issue has left me cold. I will not be voting for the president and hope the GOP puts forth a candidate worth supporting. Either way I will pass on the prez because he is too far right for me.

The Republicans aren't going to put someone up to the left of Obama.

Wishful thinking on my part.

I'm pretty much resigned to the fact we are a nation of two identical parties on the left who squabble over the speed limit on Ruinous Road.

If you think SP would sell it out you are living in a dream world. She and the Republicans got a few hundred people to show up for an event in Madison. Many of them were actually bussed in by the tea party(ie the Koch brothers).
