We really have some deep thinkers up there in Washington. How do we prime the pump of common sense to these aholes in Washington. We need a common sense revolution.

Quote:"The federal government is again offering money it does not have to entice a state (Iowa) to spend money that it does not have on something it does not need.

This, and the fact the US already makes batter use of rail than Europe (freight which does not mind an 8 versus a 2 hour trip) may hopefully wake up those with a rail fetish...

Megabus is hugely popular with University of Wisconsin students, because you can get from Madison to Minneapolis or Chicago in around 3 hours - for often as little as $4.

Amazing. Seriously.

If I were heading back east alone (now with a pregnant wife and two kids in tow) I would use this, heck I might use it for a Chicago trip with the family at some point this fall..

But mega bus does not travel well between regions

Ok. But, passenger rail is a poor concept.

I'm moving to DC on Amtrak in a week. 95 bucks, 11 hours, 3 FREE checked bags and 2 Carryons and my bike. For 95 bucks. Get that in a car, or bus, or plane.

Plus it's over night, so I can sleep in the big comfy seats. 03-wink. Passenger rail has it's place.

Go ahead and spring for the extra bucks for a sleeper. You never know who you will meet in the Bar/Dining Car.

For unmarried individuals moving their life to a city that doesn't require them to have a vehicle?

yeah i'd say the train was best for the value you got. It would probably take around 8 hours to make that drive.

The last time I took the train was from Buffalo to MSP and, in Chicago, I ended up having to sit in a small room with about 150 other passengers... Ill take being stuck in traffic thank you very much..
