Because it's the off-season and things are slow, I saw this article on Yahoo News today, figured it was a good poll question.

If you kept it, your conscience would bother you forever.

As tempting as it would be, you are right, I would also worry about being tracked down and shot, paranoid then and after. But $17,000 is A LOT!

"Two chicks at the same time".....sorry, just had to!! 03-lmfao

My heart says that I would try to find the owner. My head says that too many local city governments will keep it if the owner isn't found...tough one!!

I have no problem with keeping the money. I would put it into a safety deposit box and wait to see if anyone of need came out in the paper asking for it. If not screw them. Fools and their money applies here. Don't carry $17,000 around and make damn sure you just don't leave it sitting for just anyone.

A similar incident happened in Murfreesboro a few years ago.

Keep an eye out for anyone who looks like Javier Bardem.

I can't imagine how I would feel if I kept the money, and later, found out it was the entire life savings of an elderly person....like the person passing through Murfreesboro.
17k is a lot of money....but it's just not worth the guilt.

I think in Florida legally, if you turn the money in and no one claims it within 60 days, you are entitled to it.

That would be my course of action.
