Little Cesars Pizza Bowl no longer affiliated with the Belt
Quote:Per Pete Pelegrin's blog on FIUSports.com:

The Sun Belt Conference's ties to the Pizza Bowl are just about over. If last December was the last Pizza Bowl for a Sun Belt team, then the Panthers finished it in spectacular fashion with their rousing 34-32 win over Toledo on Dec. 26, 2010.

With the Big Ten Conference going to 12 teams with the addition of Nebraska this year, the Pizza Bowl is no longer required to have a backup contract with another conference (Sun Belt).

Of course, if there are not enough Big Ten teams bowl-eligible and no other bowl-eligible teams from other conferences available and there happens to be a bowl-eligible Sun Belt team then you could see a return to Detroit by a team from FIU's conference.

The Sun Belt is working on getting an agreement with another bowl game in addition to the tie-ins that the conference already has with the New Orleans Bowl and the GoDaddy.Com Bowl.

The Pizza Bowl also announced they moved the bowl game to Dec. 27 and in the afternoon instead of the day after Christmas and at night like last year.

I believe last year was the first time we actually used the tie. MT went as an at-large in 2006 and I'm pretty sure FAU was an at-large in 2008 as well.

The expansion of the Big 10 made it likely that they would finally have a Big 10 team. I am happy for the game and the MAC as well.

Our interest was solely in the chance to play, not in going to Detroit. The long-term health of the game really needs two regional teams involved.

I just hope something more appropriate to our region can be found.

Who wants to vacation in Detroit in december anyway? You can get robbed and freeze to death all in one night.

I had a blast in Detroit. It was cold yes, but there was only one time when I made a wrong turn walking back to the hotel that I felt like I was somewhere I shouldn't be. I didn't feel any less safe than I did in certain areas of New Orleans or Mobile.

Perhaps a bowl between the WAC and the SBC in San Antonio?

New Orleans and Mobile seem to be more desireable vacation spots during the winter. I'm sure fans would be happier heading to Mobile or maybe San Antonio instead of heading North. I would be happy to be in any bowl game next year.

To me, the perfect Bowl game is played between 3 to 7 hours away. Just close enough to drive, but too far to not stay the night.

Something in Florida - Orlando, even Boca Raton, would be nice. Even Mobile is cold as $&*# in January.

Not always. Mobile was in the mid-70's prior to last year's GoDaddy Bowl.

For many of our teams, San Antonio would be twice as far as New Orleans or Mobile. While the destination is better than Detroit, I'm not sure many fans would make the trek out to Texas.

The proposed Cure Bowl would be a Sun Belt bowl in Orlando.

It's been rejected, but I'm pretty sure the folks behind it are still hopeful of getting it added at some point in the near future.

Its 6 one way half a dozen the other. Fla is a long way from Denton or Lafayette. As long as its close to your footprint and against decent competition, most fans will be happy.

I agree. I would love a trip to a bowl in Mobile or in the southeast. It is a great place to spend a short holiday rooting your team on.

Orlando got rejected because they never go their financing together. By all accounts no new games will be approved the next few years but an existing game might move its license to another location.
