The Sarah Palin Tour
http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/cl...-tour.html

I thought this story in New Yorker was rather amusing. Apparently we might find out Thursday what and where Sarah Palin is doing/going. Or maybe we won't.

A couple of choice lines from the story.

This isn’t a campaign tour, except to campaign on our Constitution,” Palin told Greta van Susteren, of Fox News, in an exclusive, bus-board interview, which didn’t really clear things up. When van Susteren said, “I think you’ve driven the media nuts,” Palin suggested that the experience might be character-building for reporters—they wouldn’t be fed “scripts” and schedules: “No! I want them to have to do a little bit of work on a tour like this.”

Very considerate of her. Is this a Presidential campaign, a reality-show pilot, or a choose-your-own-adventure book? Maybe it’s a quest. But for what—a plot-line for “National Treasure 3”? The Palin story is already less plausible than the scene in the last one when Nicolas Cage broke into the Oval Office. She hit Gettysburg this morning, swung by the Liberty Bell (to decipher the secret code inside?) and then zagged up to New York, where she’ll see Donald Trump—he’s a monument of sorts, one supposes..”.

I would not be the least surprised if she was doing this just to make their heads explode (the lib media). For somebody who they deride as irrelevant they sure want to know stuff. She's giving them the business, making them speculate. Perhaps she hopes they do something really stupid.

I don't think she is running.

She's getting paid and so are they. Capitalism at it's finest! Supply met demand, and they are now a Crazy 8's running away from everyone!

Yep. She lives rent free in their heads and loves every minute. It kills them she doesn't cater to them or give two sh1ts what they say or write about her.

I think it's hysterical.

I am sure she was exhausted from being a half term governor of a state with just over 600,000 people.

How much time did O actually spend in D.C. in the halls of Congress while he was running all over the country campaigning for a job he wasn't experienced enough for?

600,000 that's not even a decent sized city

RE: The Sarah Palin Tour
I'm always surprised people think Sarah Palin bothers the liberal media.. they love her. They love everything she does, her existence is everything they could ever ask for. She is a gold mine. And unlike Fox News, they don't even have to pay for her material. She brings laughs w/o any work, all you have to do is throw a clip up of whatever she did that day, write a couple obvious one liners, and boom, the audience eats it up.

The only people who might like Sarah Palin more than the liberal media or benefit more from what she does, are liberal politicians.

MileHigh, NinerFan.. just because they make jokes at her expense does not mean she frustrates the liberal media or that they dislike her. If they disliked her nearly as much as you are implying, they wouldn't put her all over the television constantly. The liberal media loves Sarah Palin, she does their job for them, she's a walking soundbite. She is their darling as much as the far right's.

Palin owes just about every dime she has to the liberal media that she claims to despise.

Now that is hysterical!

BTW - Did anyone notice that once again Sarah had something written on the palm of her left hand while enhaling the emissions at the Harley ride over the weekend?

I'm not a fan of Sarah Palin.. but I've written notes or reminders on my hand plenty of times. Like I tell people when they bash Obama over nonsense like the birther crap, plenty of legitimate reasons to go at these people, no need to waste your time over the trivial stuff.

You clearly have not been following the coverage of this tour. The sound bites alone show the frustration. One CBS news person tried to claim Palin was causing safety issues for them by not telling them where she was going. That she could cause a wreck.

You are absolutely kidding yourself if you think the way she is treating them isn't frustrating the hell out of them. They are used to being catered to, sucked up to, given every piece of information they want. They expect that treatment. She's not giving it to them, and it's pissing them off.

And there is a profound difference between liking the ratings she brings and liking her. Make no mistake, the majority hate her living guts. To try and argue otherwise is patently absurd.

It's the largest state in the union...by far. Guess they covered that in my civics class.

So your point is, well, pointless.

You really ought to check around more. I know that your statement is a typical liberal talking point. Try looking at how the media is covering this. The press treated her like shiite when she was picked by McLame as running mate. Now, she is tweaking them and ignoring them and the media can't stand it.

They are whining about it. Like this weird CBS whine that says that because she won't tell them where she is going next, they must follow her bus. It's dangerous, they complain. Well, if that is true that your youngsters are not good enough drivers to follow a bus, CBS just ought to pull the plug and not chase her. What big scoop do they think that they are going to get?

Sarah Palin's bus tour treats reporters like paparazzi

This is so rich. CBS just identified/discovered the reason most folks don't watch the dinosaur network media like themselves any more. They and the other alphabet networks BECAME paparazzi by the way they cover news, entertainment and the merging of the two and the dumbing down of their news shows. Not to mention bias in their infotainment shows.

Quote:Palin's team isn't just ignoring the press; it's actively trying to misdirect reporters. Tuesday morning, for example, Palin's bus was running out in front of the hotel where she had stayed, prompting a gaggle of media to dutifully gather outside. Palin had already slipped out a side door early in the morning for a visit to the Gettysburg visitor center and battlefield.

Now, the media is sniping at each other due to their frustrations, on Twitter. They complain that SP is acting like a celebrity. HOW FUNNY! We never heard such an observation/allegation about their favored politician, the male diva Barack Obama. Or, if it was mouthed, it was done very quietly.

Palin's bus tour causes media bickering on Twitter

Even the NYT sort of gets it.

Palin dismisses the media, but they come back for more

Quote:GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Sarah Palin has apparently decided that she can treat the media any way she wants — and they will be there regardless.

And she might not be wrong.
Quote:When Ms. Palin tried to slip out the back of the hotel Monday evening to run a quick errand with her youngest daughter, she finally gave in to about three minutes of questions from reporters.

Do you want the press to be here, one reporter asked?

“Well, I think I don’t have a choice,” Ms. Palin said, laughing and adding a bit about not wanting to disrupt the lives of the regular people in the towns she visits.

But Ms. Palin clearly wants the media attention — she just wants it on her terms. Having felt burned by what she often calls the “lamestream” media, Ms. Palin is all too happy to pick the moments she will deal with journalists.
Quote:Do reporters who are trailing her feel used and manipulated?

“Ya think?” said one NBC producer who was among those who waited for hours on the lawn at Mount Vernon, George Washington’s home, when the bus tour stopped there, only to have Ms. Palin slip away from the tour without making an appearance.

It's driving the press nuts and while I'm not a big Palin fan, I have to say that this is hilarious.

Yeah right, HF84. The liberal press love Sarah. They love having the upper hand, from which they can slander her at will. Now, their frustrations are coming out because they can no longer control the narrative. Brilliant strategy by the SP team.

RE: The Sarah Palin Tour
Niner, you are seriously naive if you think it doesn't benefit them to complain about Sarah Palin when on the air.. I'm sure like most people they find her to be a joke, but that's obviously different than hating her.

What narrative can they not control? She's a television personality.. that's like suggesting Kim Kardashian is "controlling the narrative." That's laughable. What upper hand does she have? What is this strategy you speak of? What is she accomplishing?

Nothing of consequence from my point of view. Just increased TV ratings and book sales, no different than Donald Trump. If she wants to take the far right wing's money, that's fine by me. The more attention and money she takes away from serious politicians like Tim Pawlenty, the worse off the legitimate Republicans are.
