That was my initial take on this story, 16 days ago. It's remarkable that Weiner and his proxies were able to keep Breitbart's name in the mix for as long as they did. But the tale has now been told, and Weiner's political career is, indeed, at an end. I am genuinely sad for him that it has to end this way, just as I would be for Larry Craig or Spitzer or McGreevey or Vito Fossella or any of the rest. But if actions are not followed by consequences, even the little bit of "order" and good-sense that we still have in this world would be completely overwhelmed by anarchy and sleaze. I hope, once he gets out of the spotlight, that Weiner and his family can pull their life back together.
