This would definately put a knife point into Notre Dame's back.

Hope you're right. They're OK right where they are. I would like to see Air Force go independent as well.

A guy who seems to know the goings on at UCF tells me that internally the athletic department has conceded that the Big East isn't going to happen. Says UCF, ECU, and Memphis are turning their attention toward making CUSA better.

Which in turn means several Sun Belt schools are turning their attention to making the Sun Belt better, Temple is turning their attention to making the MAC better and heads are exploding in Ruston...

I use to work for the department and my friends that still work there have no idea whats going on. The administration is extremely secretive. Not even the AAD knows whats going on.

True. No CUSA invite and 400 miles to your nearest conference mate, UTSA. That sucks for your travel budget.

I'm still curious as to how Army/Navy to the Big East has any effect on Notre Dame.

With the PAC 12 and the Big 10 with 12 teams this means Notre Dame is more of an after thought with scheduling. Therefore, ND extends the present series with Stanford to 2019.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/fo...t=cf_t2_a4

So now ND has a defacto schedule of

Army
Boston College
Navy
Michigan
Michigan State
Sanford
Southern California

If Army and Navy go the BE then that puts more constraints on ND ability to schedule the academies. ND needs Army and Navy. Army and Navy do not need ND. ND is becoming less of a factor every year in the National Title race. The SEC, PAC 12, BIG 10 and don't need ND. If the Big East adds Army and Navy, the BE does not need ND.

Why play a 9 team conference schedule plus championship game plus Notre Dame. Over the last 20 years, ND has just about dropped off the radar except for the folks over 35 years of age that remember the last ND championship 22 years ago.

Plus with the Championship games for the SEC, BIG 10, ACC , CUSA, and a BE-12, Notre Dame gets locked out of the National Championship game unless there is a playoff. If the Big 12 expands back to 12 members, ND is locked out of the championship totally.

Notre Dame would have to have 10 wins during the regular season every year just to stay relevant.

That's all well and good, but even if the Big East goes to 12 if Notre Dame ever gets to the point where being a football independent is a hindrance, either one of the Big Ten or Big East would take them in a heartbeat.

Actually, Texas State in the nearest at about 423 highway miles. UTSA is a little farther down I35 at 472 miles.
