University of Houston head football coach Kevin Sumlin and staff will host the fourth annual Football 101 for Women presented by State Farm on July 28. Registration is $35 per person and includes a public reserved ticket to the East Carolina game on Oct. 8.
The event, exclusively for women, provides participants with several interactive learning opportunities and on-field demonstrations designed to make female fans the most football savvy in the country.
"This is one of the best events we do each year," said Sumlin. "There is no doubt that women have become huge football fans, and it is exciting to equip them with knowledge of the sport so their Saturdays in the stands are more enjoyable."
Sumlin and the Cougar staff guide participants through offensive and defensive strategy, teach the rules of the game and give the women a chance to participate in actual football drills.
The program will also cover strength and conditioning, sports medicine and team apparel and equipment. The event will be interactive, and all registered will have a chance to win many prizes.
Registration and dinner begin at 5 p.m. in the Carl Lewis Auditorium inside the Athletics/Alumni Center with the program beginning at 6 p.m.
Participants must be at least 18 years of age to attend and should wear sports attire and tennis shoes. Registration is available at
