RE: Poll- Sun Belt Top 25 team in the next 3-5 years?
I voted no because I belive the brutal OOC schedule most of us play do not give us the chance at the 10 + win seasons you need to crack the top 25.

I voted yes because if the MAC can do it, we can do it.

I just woke up and I thought I saw softball in the title, so I voted yes. I don't know that I would have voted yes for football.

Most every other SBC sport has had a team in the Top 25 recently, so why not football ?

I take the approach "Why not us ?"

I do wonder sometimes if one "Boise State"-type program in the Belt would be good or bad for the conference. Do we want one program dominating year after year after year ?

If by one, you mean one over and over, then that would be a bad thing IMHO, but still better then were we are now.

However like the MAC and CUSA, I feel we REALLY need to get ONE team a year into the top 25. Ideally it would be a couple of different teams fighting for it.

Call me when Troy is ranked in the top 25 as the poll indicates. 03-melodramatic

Troy has certainly dominated the confrence, however you have managed to 01-rivals the bed against the OOC's along with the rest of us. I'll give you the Mizzou win a while ago, but other then taht, close to beating tems doesnt count with voters or the public.

If the "ONE" is FAU, then I don't mind One Dominant Team!

I don't think he was being serious by any means as far as top 25 domination goes.

I know. 04-cheers

Although he IS right. Troy has dominated the confrence with 5 straight championships (albiet some of them as Co-champion, 2007 forever great in my heart 03-cloud9) they still havent managed to win those rough OOC's against the Big Boys constently enough.

Unfortunately, you are correct. And believe me, december 2007 was a very dark december for all of us trojan fans.

FAU needs to really tap into the local talent now with the new stadium. It may mean a new HC and staff need to be brought into generate new excitement for the program. I hate to say it but from what I've experienced, recruits relate better to a younger, energetic staff. I think FAU can be that program 3-5 yrs down the line, but there needs to be a big jump up in the level of talent particularly in the trenches. May also need an upgrade in the training center.

nOT tHAt anyone cares what I think, but I believe that if the Sun Belt did have that one Boise State type program it would help everyone in the conference. After all, if one program is that strong all the other programs in the conference could not be all that bad. You are who you hang with. If you are a member of a gang, you are known more for being a member of a gang than who you really are.
If you took Auburn and put them in the Sun Belt, and they won the national championship for the next three years, you would be thought of much higher than perceptions now.
Eventually some other conference team would start beating Auburn, and that school would grow a reputation tremendously fast because of that.
So, I believe it would help all conference members.
