If we expand we are sticking to current FBS programs.
FYI: the ONLY 1-AA teams I personally am interested in are App State and Texas State...and I don't really expect to see either in the Belt.
Well, we have seen alot of changes to CFB over the last 20 years. Back in 1991 both Miami, Penn State and Florida State were Independents. The Big East Football Conference did not exist. UCF and Boise State were IAA in 1995. FAU and FIU did not have football teams.
The Big 10 is now the "BIG 10/12" and the Big 12 is now the "Big 10". Utah and Colorado are now in the PAC 12. Things are changing all the time and sometimes in a hurry, look at USF.
We all have our preferences. I am just looking at the potential of Georgia State and UNCC as large universities with growing alumni numbers and both sit in middle of huge media markets, Atlanta and Charlotte. Which means more exposure for the SBC.
If I look back ten years, I do not see USF, Boise State or Utah.
So if I look ten years ahead I can see Georgia State and UNC Charlotte in the USF/Boise mode. The football landscape is always changing.
South Alabama and Ga State seem to already have a rivalry. Would you like to see Troy play in Atlanta every other year? How about Middle Tennesse vs Ga State in Atlanta or against UNCC in Charlotte. They schools are close enough to bring fans to Troy and Murfreesboro.
That's all. I respect everyones opinon on this matter. That is why I participate on the board. I like App State as well; however, I try to keep in mind the travel cost for all sports. I think only 9 FBS schools made money last year on athlectics. What we have here is regional biases which I understand. So we continue the debate.
I try to keep everybody informed on the happenings in this corner of the union. Did you know that Stetson has announced it going to start a football team? No, I am not pushing for Stetson to join the SBC. It is a sign that alumni around the country know that football is the primer to get your alumni to send money back to your college or university.
I have waited a long time to see football at South Alabama. Hell, it should have happened when UAB started football. That was very disapointing. Mobile, Alabama is one crazy football town. Go Jags!
