Former UNT assistant coach Karen Aston has resigned as the head coach at Charlotte to pursue other opportunities.

"I would like to thank Charlotte, and in particular Judy Rose and Dr. Phil Dubois for this tremendous opportunity to coach the 49ers," Aston said in an official release from Charlotte. "I loved my time spent here, and have some everlasting memories of Charlotte. I simply found it was time to pursue other opportunities, and more importantly, get closer to my family. Again, I am forever indebted to the people here for allowing me this opportunity and wish Charlotte continued success!"

Aston spent a lot of time coaching in Texas, including spending time at Texas and Baylor.

It just makes too much sense.

This would be a home run hire, if UNT has pulled it off. Charlotte just made it to the WNIT Final Four and made one NCAA Tournament appearance and three WNIT appearances in her four years at the school.

Does this go along with the other "home run" hires North Texas has made in the last five years?

Who knows? Her credentials look respectable, much better than former coach Stephens. But the potential "home run" hire would be Vic Schaeffer, Assistant Coach at Texas A & M. He was a candidate for the job the last time around.
