Yet, you are willing to do nearly the very same thing to travel to the southern tip of Florida. Only, you are not greeted by a Top-20 basketball program, and you play in empty arenas.

Oh well, I guess it works for you.

Quote:If it were so attractive, why did the Cajuns decline the opportunity to return to the Big West when Arkansas State accepted? That only involved one sport.

Because, Mr Arkstfan, by then, our grand leader had pulled the plug on our football program. We ran on fumes for several years while he raised millions for academics.

You're muddying the waters. The issue is not a return to the Big West. The issue at hand is do we invite Utah State as a member of the SBC WEST.

I humbly submit that the positives outweigh the negatives.

When we arrive in Florida we can make contacts in a key recruiting area. Utah is a recruiting wasteland. We can pair up games in Florida to save costs. The Florida schools get a local opponent, USU has a long trip to everyone, that's bad for their budget

In no particular order.....

Utah State (To far West)
New Mexico State (Why Not?)
UTSA (Great Rival for UNT & TSU)
Texas State (Great Rival for UNT & UTSA
Missouri State (No more non-football schools)
Oral Roberts (No more non-football Schools)

Okay, I was having a little fun!03-lmfao

Each of these schools brings something of value to the table or offers growth potential that the school in Ruston doesn't.

Ever heard of "low hanging fruit" ?

Dismissing the La Tech slam, why would you think Texas State and UTSA would be great rivals for NT. If McNeese and Southeastern LA wanted to move up would ULL welcome them as great rivals?

Two reasons....First, you guys are sitting there in Texas and not sharing a conference with any other state school. I think it would be great for you guys to see how that shoe fits like we had to endure with three at one time with ULM and UNO. Its much easier to be a fan of the current lineup from the other side of the fence. Since we are already are in that position with ULM, we don't have to think about that scenario as it already exist today. Second, it tickles the hell out me just thinking how that would set with you and other UNT fans.05-stirthepot

I assume from your answer that you wouldn't want any Louisiana move ups to join the Belt. There are a lot of NT fans that would love to see TSSM or UTSA in the Belt. I however would like for these teams to actually play a few fb schedules before I want them in the Belt. Neither at this point offers anymore than potential and there are currently a lot of fc teams out there with that. Yes the Belt has survived on fc move up teams but that was when the Belt needed numbers which is not the current case.

The other point you may have overlooked that for teams like ULL who do a lot of recruiting in Texas, the Texas newcomer twins are going to also increase competition for recruits and those players are exactly the ones that trickle down to the Belt now.
I don't think that the Cajuns signed one player from Texas this year--but we should in the future--BUT NO MORE THAN TWO LOUISIANA SCHOOLS!!!!!!

Right now, no FBS programs are willing to even consider a move to the WAC. Very desperate move, and it won't work. Even with those two gone, nobody will want to join the WAC. The Belt presidents won't let Water's water down the Sun Belt.

Right now the best option for LA Tech and NMSU is to go independent and wait for an invite into any other conference.

Lafayette fans who are suppporting the idea of adding UTSA and Texas State are just trying to divert attention away from adding LA Tech, because they don't want another Louisiana school in the Belt.

If we stay at 11, then we are all happy.

Texas State isn't as bad of an add as you say.. and I think your logic is a bit backwards. If we left the WAC, conference stability would be even worse than what it is currently; that doesn't bode well for LaTech. We'll have the facilities, money, and potential to do very well in the new WAC.

Besides, how many teams host in-state BCS foes in their first year of FBS?

Geeze. Texas Tech is just lookin' for an easy away win that's close to home and doesn't cost much in travel.

They weren't in-state, but UNT hosted Kansas at Texas Stadium and Oregon State in Denton in our first year back in FBS. We beat Oregon State 30-27.:odie:
As much as you'd like, I don't think you can write off a Red Raider visit easily. We have them opening our stadium expansion in 2012; aren't yall opening yours to a CUSA team? Not saying there is anything wrong with that, but really now..

I also think Sun Belt fans are used to rocky transitions to FBS (WKU seems to be the most recent). I'd be willing to bet that Texas State's will be much smoother with Fran and Co. leading the way in a newly expanded Bobcat Stadium (the traditional campus, river, girls, and college town help too)
I'm not trying to write off their visit. Just stated the obvious. They are looking forward to an away win that's a short distance from home.

Fran definately can't walk on water & may be short a paddle in his canoe. You'll have your problems and challenges same as everyone else who move up.

What does UNT opening our new stadium vs Houston have to do with your game vs Tech ? It's just mind boggling how some of you folks think01-wingedeagle

Denton fans are against adding any Texas programs because right now they are the only Texas school in the SBC. Cajun fans are more opened to adding UTSA, NMST or Texas State rather then GSU and APPSt. because we have competed against those programs in some sports. And adding more eastern time zone programs is not in our interest.

Just not interest in adding ANY FCS move-up programs...PERIOD !:odie:

I'm okay with that as well, but no FCS programs in the eastern time zone period!
