UALR to face UNC-Asheville in Play-In game.

A UALR win gets the league two units. Not sure if it counts as a 'full' unit, but I haven't heard that it will not. I don't know much about UNC-Asheville, but they are 16-13, with 3 of those wins being against non-Division I teams. They only have three wins over teams with an RPI under 200, with two of those wins coming against Coastal Carolina (and these came after illegal recruiting allegations and and injury issues at Coastal Carolina). I'd tend to think that UALR has an excellent shot in this game.

The Sun Belt in a play-in game!? Troy was better off in hoops in the A-Sun.

No one's stopping you from going back.

The A-Sun had a team win 30 games. They got a 13 seed. Three years ago the SBC had a 10 and a 12.(that's two teams in.)

This was a crappy year, but don't talk about basketball like you actually know what you're talking about, Bobby.

This is coming from a fan of a school who has only been to the NCAA Tournament once in its history...

You shoot your mouths off without getting it.

Troy had an easier run to the tourney in the A-Sun. The A-Sun gets more TV time. The A-Sun apparently garners more respect from the NCAA.

Troy moved up, allegedly, to a much tougher conference to win (and sorry, but the Trojans did win it last year) and gained nothing. Not even one more dance bid. It is tougher to win and is a better league, but no one but us seems to realize that.

In the meantime, the Big East gets 11 teams in, including a team that did not win even one conference game.

I don't agree the A-Sun is the place to be, but when the regular season winner can't get into the dance (even the expanded tourney) for two straight years, and maybe more), even FAU, which ran away with it this year, our conference has lots of work to do - on and off the court. Troy (even FAU) would have, effectively, been better off in their old conference, for hoops.

Oh, and MG, as bad as Troy was this year, look at the scoreboard from Feb. 17 and at the top of the 2010 standings.

Maybe you are the one shooting off your mouth and not getting it. You're not a regular top team in the Belt, but you boo-hoo that Troy would be better off somewhere else. Oh gee, Troy beat us this year, so good for you. your top in 2010 did get you an NIT trip, but you sure didn't win the tournament did ya ? Who did ya lose to ? Quit bitchin.

You still don't get it. I am not bitching, only stating the fact that Troy gained little or nothing by moving "up" in conference. One bid, more difficult to win.

Part of the reason for our situation this year is teams going 1-11 against D-1 OOC opponents.

Only 4 schools out of 12 had OOC seasons that weren't a complete embarrassment. When 2/3rds of the conference does absolutely nothing, then crap like this happens.

When your program is one of the heaviest anchors dragging down our conference this year, it doesn't seem appropriate to complain about what our tournament champs have to deal with.

If Troy and all the other teams that sucked so bad in OOC this year had managed just one more D-1 victory outside of Sun Belt play each, UALR probably wouldn't be in the play-in game right now.

So next year... At least, win one more. Or, if your team is feeling very bold... Go above .500 against D-1 opponents for what I believe would be the first time ever since joining the league.

O.K. I get it. It's all Troy's fault. Thanks for educating me. So one year removed from winning the conference, Troy is the anchor. Hmmm.

Team wise, Troy was weak, especially after injuries. But Troy did manage to beat USA, MTSU, WKU, Denver (in Colorado), North texas and some top Belt teams. Many other games were lost in OT or were very close (including by 3 to the tourney champ).

If we're that bad ...

Didn't realize ETSU made it to the NCAA tourney this year. Guess I missed that in my bracket. Belmont winning 30 games must have elevated everyone in the A-SUN.

How did Troy win the conference last year?

Beating conference teams doesn't help the conference. Beating out of conference teams does.

It's not all Troy's fault but they are a contributor in the league's OOC woes.

RE: UALR to face UNC-Asheville in Play-In game.
Teams just need to schedule better OOC and win some of them. I feel like we did that, and a few other teams did too but everyone in the Belt needs to. That's why I'm so happy the new scheduling rules are now in place. The Sun Belt could every bit be as big as an MVC, or a Colonial, and down the road who knows? Maybe even an A-10 or C-USA. But we all need to act like we belong there first.

Um...you did gain something.

1)A spot for your football team to compete in an FBS conference, ya know, the conference that fawns over you and you've been lucky enough to receive multiple bowl bids since joining.

2)VERY strong Womens Basketball conference, one that has had top tier teams in the past few seasons.

3) a top 5-6 level baseball conference, one that has sent more than 1 team to the postseason every year for the last millennium it seems like.

Yea, our Mens basketball is down, but seriously, don't act like you got NOTHING out of the deal, and yes all of that deal comes as a package, not just basketball, and THAT is the reason you joined the SBC.

well UNCA made it in just as you guys did, getting hot during tournament time.
