Stone: Trump Can Put $2 Billion into Campaign

Friday, 25 Feb 2011 10:38 AM

By Dan Weil

Donald Trump has the best fundraising potential by far of all the potential Republican candidates – to the tune of $2 billion, says longtime Republican strategist Roger Stone. The source of that money: Trump himself, Stone tells Politico.

“I would imagine he would be a self-funder,” he says of the real estate mogul/reality TV star. “I think he passes up public finance because he then could say, ‘I don’t answer to anybody but myself and the American people, not special interests. He’s sitting on $2 billion in cash. That’s what he says. And if that’s true, he could write a check for $200 million.”

While he extols the virtues of Trump, Stone had harsh words for other candidates, calling them “very slow.” He says Sarah Palin won’t run, Mike Huckabee is unelectable and Mitt Romney is a “robotic” flip-flopper.

...and that's why he shouldn't be President. He's too prone to waste money.

Are his bankruptcies cause for concern?

I should hope so.

But, if you're in the broadcast communications field, this would be $2B of stimulus.

I encourage him to run but a little bit of Trump goes a long way. He will surely add some showmanship to the GOP field. I can't wait to get the campaign season underway

Yeah, Trump "can" cough up $2b for a presidential campaign and "could" flood the airwaves in every identifiable media market in the country all at once.

I guess my question is, why would he want to? It's not like it would put him in the Whie House. He can take the public tour for a lot less than 2 billion.

hmm, I don't see how it's a bad thing for him to run. It's a not even necessarily a bad thing if he wins, he can't muck it up as bad as the last two! (Obama and Bush)

Sidenote, do you Conservatives wish Hillary had won the nomination in 2008? I know I do, but I haven't liked Oboring from the get go.

If he has two billion, then why can't he get real celebrities to be on Celebrity Apprentice. Instead he's resorting to Jose Canseco and LaToya Jackson in the next version. I believe he has two billion about as much as I believe Dubya Bush has a high IQ.

No, I have never wished that. The idea of her as President is very offensive to me, and I was grateful to see her lose in the Democrat primaries. Absolutely shocked beyond belief, but profoundly grateful.

While Trump might call himself a republican I think his views are too much all over the place to be called a conservative. About the only good thing about him runnng is that he'll probably get the other republican candidates to truly define their positions during the primaries.

Does he? And if so, has he always done so? He's been a national media-figure for 25 years and I thought he has always been extremely careful to avoid getting into any partisan controversies.

You might find this interesting but not all inclusive. I saw an interview with him bashing Bush over the wars and a few other things that left me thinking he swings to the left. But then again, he hates Rosie ODonnell and that's always a plus. http://www.ontheissues.org/donald_trump.htm

I'd be curious to know When the anti-Bush interviews took place. That would help show whether Trump was speaking out of personal conviction or just parroting a wider social trend. As for O'Donnell, I agree with what you said, but Trump's issues with her seem to be rooted more in personality and ego than politics or viewpoints.
