DHS wrongly seizes 84,000 domain names
Just effects people engaged in piracy huh?

Oops. Imagine the **** *I* would get if this site got caught in the 84,000 others in DHS' little "mistake".

1) Abolish DHS
2) Make it illegal to seize domain names without due process
3) Tell ICE to actually go do their job, and this aint it.

RE: DHS wrongly seizes 84,000 domain names
I was always afraid of them stepping over the logical bounds of the law. Like shutting down all of YouTube, or Twitter because one user posted something copyrighted, or linked to something illegal. I never anticipated simple incompetence like this. What was I thinking?

Doesn't seem like that big of a deal; the websites were eventually restored. Sorta like having your trip delayed because you were in line at a sobriety check point - youre stopped for a while, checked out, and then allowed to continue on your way. GTS, there are bigger fish to fry.

In the mean time all of those sites were accused of trafficking child pornography. No big deal, huh? I guess we're all glad that our businesses weren't one of the accused only to have clients hit our site to see that we are a bunch of pedophiles.

It doesn't say DHS made the mistake, it says a mistake was made without pointing to who made it.

Unbelievable.

It was the other organization that has been unilaterally seizing domain names without due process.

This is just not a super big deal to me. We have cops busting into the wrong houses and arresting the wrong people, or the wrong person is convicted and sent to jail, or how every now and then our military blows up the wrong guy.....you think I care about a web site being temporarily shut down?

They weren't just shut down. They were shutdown and called pedophiles.

This is a better analogy than your first one.

Before you said it wasn't a big deal. I assumed you meant that they should just shut up and be quiet about the whole thing.

Yes, Rob's a decent guy who's just trying to have fun. Have you seen what the noobs are doing? No one is calling for their heads.

In both cases, if there was harm and neglect or malicious intent can be proven then I think a law suit is appropriate.
