But I've got to say, if there was ever a time to stay out of the red, it's right now. I don't think most people know how serious the upcoming cuts will be to Tech. I'm a faculty member, and I can tell you we've already been feeling the crunch for 2 years now. It will get worse.

"I'm as big a Tech athletics fan as the next guy, but we've GOT to focus on academics right now, because that will always get us through. If not, the Tech we know could be a shell of itself in a few years."

Wow, this from a faculty member...an insider? WOW!... Please leave all your self righteous bull sh**t at the door, Tech guy. You guys are in a nine line bind. All this and BYU dropping their game with you? LOL!! For all of his shortcomings, I have to say, Dr Authement (penny pinching son of a gun) did take care of us financially. We will feel the cuts too....it wont be easy...but you guys are fixing to get brutalized.

Let this be the last we hear of your fantasy about owning N. La. You own nothing except a hell of alot of debt.

wait wait wait. So you actually think that the budget crunch is going to be any less on ULL. Classic. What state do you live in Z delusion. No Louisiana. The same state Tech is in. Actually because of our higher graduation rates the budget cuts are expected to be less than ULL. I don't think anybody in the state needs to be crowing about budget cuts in LA now. And if you are going to take something out of context, it was in response to certain people wanted to stress athletics over academics. Why would any teacher be excited about that. But you guys love lurking over at Tech's board and taking things out of context. Nobody is under the illusions that we are immune to the budget crunch. Well except you of course. And please enlighten us as to the great 1/1's you guys have lined up. Are the bobcats from Ohio coming again. Byu is still on the table, just not next year. So they would rather play TCU while they are hot. Can't say as I blame them. Pretty sure they would have dropped you too. Oh but wait they wouldn't have had one with you in the first place.

RE: For our La Tech friends
when it comes to teachers in our same system taking a pay cut, there is no seperation. In some areas we are catching up to you and in some areas, you are falling behind. Separation from the Sunbelt has no bearing on Louisiana's pathetic economy and how it will affect teachers pay. I am sure there are many in the faculty at ULL that are probably making the same statement as the one you just heard from ours.

Let's see, La Tech $70M in an endowment with $45M is liabilities(AKA Debt) compared to UL who has $120M endowment with only $24M in liabilities.

That is why UL is not fretting nearly as much. We have $94M in net assets that can help offset the budget cuts while La Tech has only $27M to cover the cuts. Yet your fans claim that you guys are in good shape.
