If anyone thinks the Big East is all power and no finesse, I invite you to take a look at tape of Corey Fisher, Austin Freeman, Marshawn Brooks, Ashton Gibbs, Preston Knowles, Kemba Walker. Shall I go on?

Dion Dixon Wrote:Thomas hit 8 of 10 shots and finished with 16 points - his highest total in two years as a Bearcat. "He has it in him," Dion Dixon said. "It's all mental for him and he came in focused. I knew he was going to play well because I saw his focus."

Maybe Dion should doing a little of that focusing himself. He hasn't had a good game in several weeks.

Cash Wright Wrote:Still, Yancy's teammates say they're happy to have him back for the critical final three weeks of the regular season.

"When (the suspension) happened and we left for Pittsburgh, I called Yancy to see if he was OK," Cashmere Wright said. "We understood what was going on - people have bad days. You have to understand where he was coming from, and I told him we were here for him and ready for him to come back."

That drives me crazy. So his teammates are sticking up for him and telling him its ok to have a bad day and cost your team a chance at a crucial win. That goes to the heart of the attitude of this entire team. How about instead of consoling Gates, you tell him to stop whining and playing like a pu$$y!

Those public statements don't bother me at all. In fact, I want his peers to support him publicly. There is nothing to be gained by drilling a teammate in the press. Not one thing.

What gets said privately, may be another matter.

I watched that Duke-ACC game and I thought there was one player on each team we could not match up with (Smith for Duke; I forget the guy from Carolina), but that we would have a real shot against either of them.

the ACC is not very good this year....top to bottom it's not even close to it's normal self. We would be better than 6-5 through 11 games in the ACC this year in all likeyhood.

And we beat them handily. Goes to show you can't take a 2-3 game view in this league.

due to our non conference schedule, it's really tough to gauge uc. who the heck knows, if we were in the acc, where would we be?

that's why to me getting in the tourney could do wonders for us. we may not lose until we face a BE team.

I guess that's the interesting question every year. Where would we be in the B10 or ACC? Where would OSU be in the BE? What about Duke or UNC in the BE?

FWIW, I think that the BE is the strongest league, top to bottom, year in and year out. But I also think that some people on the boards stretch this idea past the breaking point. It's been six straight years without a BE finalist, and it's commonplace for BE teams to play below their seedings.

What's more, BE basketball is not the best to watch, lacking the diversity in styles that one sees in the rest of the NCAA. There is a "sameness" to BE basketball that one doesn't see in the other power conferences; I can't explain it technically, but it impresses me as all power, no finesse.

I disagree totally. Big East b-ball has it all. From run n gun like Cuse, to grind it out like wvu, to guard oriented, like Louisville and Nova, etc.

I was in Madison this week and we were watching the Wisconsin-Iowa game. My friend, who is a big Badger fan said, unprompted, " the Big East is so much more fun to watch. "

I couldn't agree more.

as great as Dixon played at the beginning of the season, he's fell back to where he was at the end of last season. We need him to suck it up and get back to his best playing level again. If we don't see it, we'll be doomed to not get in the NCAA tournament again. We need all the cylinders firing together to get there.

I NEVER felt bad about the win. As poorly as we finished the game, it was highly abnormal for DePaul to even be in that position. They had to hit EVERYTHING, and be awarded two free points (bad spot call on a 3-ptr which should have been 2, and phantom call on SK) just to be in position.

I just hope the guys learn from everything that transpired - particularly the inbounds play, and Wilks letting his guy catch the ball. Unfortunately, in the case of the former, it's the 2nd such mistake the inbounder has made. Glad it didn't cost us the game the second time.

Funny, when I saw the 'Nova "foul", first thing I thought of was the SK call. Both were TERRIBLE. I hope we get home cooking this weekend. More importantly, I hope we don't NEED it.

omg, i agree about the phantom foul. Awful calllllll....he should be fired or suspended. That is flat out incompetence as a ref. Reminded me of the old C-USA games down at UAB or Charlotte.
