The biggest bill you haven't heard of yet
S.299 - A bill to amend chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, to provide that major rules of the executive branch shall have no force or effect unless a joint resolution of approval is enacted into law.

Translation: The death of the executive order.

Who could introduce such hard-on inducing legislation? Rand Paul.

24 co-sponsors already.

Can it over ride a presidential veto? Not that it is not needed. It is. How about a term limits bill.

Since Harry Reid constantly says Executive Branch is attempting to usurp Congress, I expect this to pass.

Just tack it onto a Bill that Obama HAS to sign.

i hope he can get on the radar of the average (see: stupid) person. Right now he's only in the collective consciousness of people who are informed, but as we all know those people are the minority.

Wonder if they could get it tacked onto the debt ceiling increase?

I don't see Obama signing away his power. Does anyone really think he'll intentionally cut his nuts off? Then again, does he read anything he signs?

Are pardons or sentence commutations executive orders? Not sure I'd care if they went away or stayed, but sometimes the law is slow to react to common sense.

Aren't executive orders what the President gives to the military. Only the President can order troops into combat. Congress can declare war and fund it or not funded it. It balances the scales on national security. Would this bill in effect make the office of the presidence a token position in national defense?

No........ Ex Orders have to do with policy, direction, or how laws are to be enforced. It can be for other things as well. mostly Used to circumvent Congress or Judicial branches of gov't.

RE: The biggest bill you haven't heard of yet
I know that, I was talking about:

"As Commander in Chief of the armed forces of the United States, the president may also call into federal service the state units of the National Guard. In times of war or national emergency, the Congress may grant the president even broader powers to manage the national economy and protect the security of the United States but these are not powers granted by the Constitution to the president. During the Vietnam War in 1973, Congress passed the War Powers Act to severely limit the ability of the President to conduct warfare without Congressional approval. Congress has the power to declare the war (Article 1, sec 8), but if the president needs to send the troops to other countries for hostile reasons, he will need congressional confirmation. For any time beyond 60 days, further congressional approval will be required. The president does retain the sole right to authorize the use of nuclear weapons and is constantly accompanied by a special military officer who carries the "nuclear football"."

I assume this has the same implied message as when you say that to Ron Paul people about him becoming President?

e.g. - Well guys everybody shut the hell up and go home. Stop fighting. It's not worth it anymore. Everybody quietly go home and live out your meaningless existence. You are fringe and your quest is quixotic.

I swear if some of you people were football coaches you will forfeit if your team was down two touchdowns. ISN'T GONNA HAPPEN. WE'LL NEVER WIN.

Not saying that but if you think you can get enough congressmen/women to agree to override the President veto, you're dreaming. We've gone from a nation of individuals supporting and defending a country and Constitution to one where people are pulling for a team, nation be damned. To get this country back on track, it's like you said a couple of years ago, we need to reboot. It'll all have to come crashing down before anything can be built back up. We're too far gone. Too many people relying on government. Too many people saying we should cut this and that but don't want theirs touched.

Reboot worries me. I read somewhere that only 10% of the colonists took up arms against England.

I doubt it would be much different today. I think such a protest could get drowned out by the noise of the other 90%.

And there are such disagreements on what is freedom and liberty. Moreso than back then.

I'm just skeptical that a reboot could happen. I see a long winding path that other empires have followed.

Both my father's and mother's families have documented family members that served in the Continently Army! That makes proud to call America my country!
