UT is fighting hard for recruits! I like the fact that this staff doesn't roll-over and say we cannot get these guys and automatically say we cannot compete.

Go Rockets!

I suspect its someone from North Carolina who stepped on a tack but I'll save it for the actual Tarblooders thread.

Guys in that area of Cleveland worked the railroad. The hot tar from working on the tracks would splash up on their skiin and cause bleeding. It would look like they were sweating blood. So if you worked so hard you sweated blood, you were a Tarblooder.

Thanks for the good info Boca!

Here's what I learned from twitter account "lions247" - Sturdivant did not take his visit to MSU last weekend and only visited UT. Lions247 is also reporting that according to a PSU asst. coach that he will not visit OSU this wekend as originally planned. They stated Jones may still visit OSU. Wynn does not appear to have a visit planned for OSU.

UT appears to have a shot at one, two, or all three players.

Very interesting.

Go Rockets!

PSU fans firmly believe Sturdivant is going to commit to PSU and they are quoting Bill Green of Scout to that effect.

Hopefully our staff is getting good vibes. He would be an incredible pick-up for UT.

We are competing head to head with OSU & PSU for this kid's talents.

Go Rockets!

Remember how the recruiting of DaJuane Collins went down. They ought to ask the PSU staff how the last game against the Rockets ended up.

RE: Glenville trio football recruiting visit (1/22/11)
We do have a shot at all three, Sturdivant, Wynn, and Jones. I think Wynn is the best shot with Sturdivant right behind him...If they both decide on Toledo I believe Jones follows them.

Toledo is the outsider here. No one thinks they will come to UT, outside of a few people that are keeping their mouth shut for the most part. Fans at big ten schools and recruiting analysts laugh at Toledo having any chance at these kids, but it's legitimate. We might not get them, but we are going toe to toe with some awfully big programs. Just the fact that they are taking us so serious and used one of their five official visits they are allotted on UT just 2 weeks before signing day shows that Toledo is becoming a force to be reckoned with on the recruiting front with Cleveland Glenville. There is a nice relationship and pipeline starting with this staff and Glenville.

Getting recruits like this, and Olack if he chooses us over Pittsburgh, is just going to improve Toledo's standing in the eyes of big-time recruits for the 2012 class and beyond. Let's hope we can land these guys.

Brian: Keep the inside info coming!

It appears we may be getting a 2011 commit from the east coast according to today's tweet from coach Beckman. Any info?

I think he's just talking about WR Alonzo Russell (Washington DC) who was already committed, but was keeping things open with Iowa and Illinois and was considering visits to them. He had offers from both schools, but I don't believe he has visited either one yet with just this weekend left for official visits before signing day. I hate to get my hopes up too much, but everything I've heard sounds like Russell stays with us and signs to be a Rocket next Wednesday.

Sounds good on Russell. We need to lock this kid up and coach Beckman appears to be right on top of things by visiting AR and cementing his commitment. Hopefully it holds.

Could be Cordale Jones would be the most reluctant of the three to commit to UT because he would not want to compete against former classmate Terrance Owens...been there, done that...even though at this point Jones may have better physical tools to work with. Then again, he might relish the chance to send Owens to the bench. I'd like to see him try. Competition begets better players.

If by some MIRACLE Jones would select UT I would think he would RS (if eligible) or go prep route(not eligible) and be eligible to play when Owens is a junior. He would then have two years to start.

I won't hold my breathe but a miracle could occur.

Go Rockets!

Rumors say that Ohio State offered Jones a gray shirt. Unbelievably, it appears that Andre Sturdivant will decide between Toledo and Penn State. Shane Wynn is still more of a mystery as he is keeping very quiet, which IMO, is a good thing for UT.

Its hard to believe the depth Coach Beckman has built going into this third recruiting class. His first class was almost built from scratch and filled a lot of holes last year. He is taking it to a whole new level with the transfers and recruits(fingers crossed) coming in this year, the type that we coud only wish for in the past. Its truly an exciting time to be a Rocket, hope we can keep this guy around for a few more years cause he will leave this program rock solid.

RE: Glenville trio football recruiting visit (1/22/11)
It's gonna be an awfully interesting last week till signing day next Wednesday.

Word on the street, if you will, is that Toledo is very, very close to landing Andre Sturdivant and Shane Wynn, which means there is a good chance for Cordale Jones as well. It seems that something happened between Penn State and Sturdivant that they don't seem to be in the picture for him anymore. Same with Wynn and Penn State. Ohio State appears to have filled their class at Sturdivant's position with a commitment from a kid from Maryland the other day, so they appear to be out of the picture. Sturdivant did not even visit Michigan State last week, so unless he visits them this weekend.......there are really strong odds that he ends up at Toledo.

Wynn has loved the Toledo coaches and facilities since he was first being recruited by the Rockets a couple of years ago. He's been awfully silent in terms of talking about Toledo, and now he's been awfully silent about anymore official visits or making a commitment anywhere. I think both would love to get an Ohio State offer, but that doesn't appear to be happening so Toledo is awfully appealing to them.

Massillon WR Justin Olack is still on the fence as of this afternoon, and Pitt coaches and Scout.com recruiting analysts are no longer so confident they are going to get his commitment. IMO, the longer he waits to make his decision; the better chance he signs with Toledo.

RE: Glenville trio football recruiting visit (1/22/11)
Just got back from the bball game and was sitting near a couple football coaches so I was hearing a lot of talk the whole game...

One coach made it sound like Cordale wants to go to 0$U/we don't have a good shot at him. They then made it sound like we have a real good shot at the other 2, even though one of them has wanted to go to PSU since he was a kid. Also, one of them (Cordale?) might not be eligible; one of the coaches said he would be and that he has a 3.15 GPA, while the other was saying he wouldn't be eligible and would have to go JUCO first.

Another thing, EJ Tucker is officially ineligible because he didn't pass the OGT. He is currently at (or at least went to) Owens. They said he is a great kid, but just not the brightest.

RE: Glenville trio football recruiting visit (1/22/11)
Just heard from a friend that is a recruiting analyst for one of the recruiting services and knows Andre Sturdivant pretty well. He said it looks like Sturdivant is headed to Toledo. Tank, as he's known at Glenville, is a 4 star recruit on Rivals.com. I'm crossing my fingers!

Sturdivant is the kid they (coaches at the game) were talking about that has loved Penn State. I agree about Jones that he wants to go to OSU, and I've heard he might not get eligible in which case he will likely go to a prep school rather than a JUCO.

Yeah, Tucker is out of the picture and will likely never see a 4 year colleigate football field. I also confirmed the other day that Toney Foster (2010 gray shirt signing from Cleveland Glenville) is no longer an option.

Thanks, Brian, keep up the good work. I like your positive vibes. If Sturdivant does indeed commit to UT, I hope he brings Wynn with him. Those two along with Olack would be a terrific way to top off our recruiting year. Who knows, Jones might reconsider UT after prep school, especially with the success the Rockets are going to have this coming year.
