Here is an earlier post I made in the USA Thread:

Burton Scott will enroll at classes at USA today, making him eligible for next season. He is a transfer from Alabama and was a 5* out of high school, rated #19 overall and the #1 ATH by ESPN.

My heavens! South Alabama is going to be a very, VERY good football team in the FBS division. There are going to be some AQ teams that will fall to this team within the next ten years for sure (and really, I'd say in less than 5 years from today), and it's going to come as a complete surprise to them when it happens.

South Alabama has proven the doubters wrong at every turn so far, but still the doubters persist. South is going to surprise a lot of teams including some of the SBC doubters. I see nothing but good things for South.

I was planning on doing my Master's degree at BYU for one of my areas of emphasis, and I'm still going to do that, but maybe I'll have to check out South Alabama's programs. I've always wanted to spend at least two years of my life living on the Gulf Coast, but I never really saw a school that offered anything that caught my eye in any way, shape, and form. Until now.

You should definitely check South out! Campus has undergone a dramatic change in the last 5-10 years and there is still all kinds of new construction happening. Good time to be a Jaguar.

We are very, very pleased with this pickup obviously. What was probably our biggest weakness last year will turn into one of our biggest strengths next year.

I got a bunch of snickers and jeers when I put a USA Football pennant on my office wall two years ago. The snickering has stopped.

USA football has been as advertised so far, but this season will tell more about the program as the competition level rises...good luck to you all...

More Usa news.

Linebacker Maleki Harris verbally commits to Jags

Harris said he received offers of a grant-in-aid from Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss, UAB, Memphis "and a couple of others." He said he also had talks with Auburn, Vanderbilt, Michigan State and Louisville.

Dude, what is with you? LOL! The thread is about USA. Why the constant GSU hate? Because I said that all of the recent startups will be sucessful? Do you really expect the school with an enrollment of 50k by 2015, in the number 4 recruitiing ground nationally in a city of 6 million to fail? What is with the Cobb County bias? The startup with the hardest road to hoe is Lamar and even they have WAC rumors circulating. All of these administrations have learned from those that came before them 10 to 12 years ago. There will be no Western Kentucky type issues. Heck, even Kennesaw has a chance with the right coach.

There will be no Western Kentucky type issues? The school has only been FBS for what, two. . .maybe three seasons? If I was a betting a man, I would never try to suggest that Georgia State would ever be able to open up their first season of FBS play with teams finishing with 6, 7, 8 or more wins. Do I really think the market of Atlanta could make GSU good EVENTUALLY? Probably. But you are naive if you think GSU is going to be so spectacular coming out of the gate. If market was everything, how come FIU struggled coming out of the gate? How come New York City doesn't even really have FBS football? How come Houston finished with a losing record and UAB? If market was everything to prevent no struggles, then how come San Jose State has only mustered two winning season in the past 18 years?

No, I've watched a couple of Georgia State games on the Internet. Good potential, but I'm not impressed. A narrow loss to Jacksonville State does not make a world-beating Georgia State team.

Also, don't assume that what you have seen recently of Western Kentucky is the best the program can do. I saw some potential out of that program this year that I really liked. Of course, this takes time in many cases to build a good program. If you aren't lighting the world on fire in Division 1-AA/FCS (which Georgia State has not), then it's best to believe that a move to FBS won't exactly yield better results immediately.

Gee, I am pretty sure i was talking about the recent startups collectively.
Re: WKU, it was not a flame comment but rooted in reality. It's about more than wins. But correct me if I am wrong in saying that WKU has had attendance issues since moving up. My point is that other than USF most other teams that moved up in the last decade have had struggles. The next group has learned from those struggles. Most of our HCs and ADs have consulted with those who were in charge of the last group to move up. As for GSU in particular we will be just fine. Each startup has had its own strategy. No first year team ever has ever played a Top 5 FCS and a Top 10 FBS in their inaugural season. I would also recommend to the next startup to not have a murderers row of consecutive late season away games. (I think 3 of our last 4 were away) It really showed late in the season as we had a lt of injuries and a lot of hurt bodies in those last 3 away games in hostile environs (ODU, USA and Bama). Still in the end we were 6-5 and 4 plays away from 10-1. Hopefully this season's schedule is more strategic so that we arent in an Ali-Frazier for 4 straight weeks at the end of the season. But we should also benefit from having 22 starters back with a year of experience behind them.

There are currently 120 FBS programs(USA will make 121) of the current 120, 55 of them are non-AQ, only 25 of those 55 finished with a winning record this year. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that that is less than half. So there are 55 non-AQ schools, all of us fighting the same uphill battle, fighting the same issues, battling differing levels of the same disadvantages. Many of the non-AQ schools have been playing at the FBS level since 1978 and many of them are struggling just as much as the rest of us.

Of the non-AQs who have been startups or moved up in the last twenty years.

Nevada(started football in 1896 moved to FBS in 1992) eleven winning seasons in FBS(out of 19)

ULM(started football in 1951 moved to FBS in 1994) zero winning seasons in FBS(out of seventeen)

UNT(started football in 1913 moved to FBS in 1995) three winning seasons in FBS(out of sixteen)

Boise State(started football in 1968 moved to FBS in 1996) thirteen winning seasons in FBS(out of fifteen)

UAB(started football in 1991 moved to FBS in 1996) three winning seasons in FBS(out of fifteen)

UCF(started football in 1979 moved to FBS in 1996) eight winning seasons in FBS(out of fifteen)

Idaho(started football in 1893 moved to FBS in 1997) three winning seasons in FBS(out of fourteen)

Marshall(started football in 1895 moved to FBS in 1997) eight winnings seasons in FBS(out of fourteen)

Buffalo(started football in 1894 moved to FBS in 1999) one winning season in FBS(out of twelve)

Middle Tennessee(started football in 1911 moved to FBS in 1999)four winning seasons in FBS(out of twelve)

Troy(started football in 1909 moved to FBS in 2002) six winning seasons in FBS(out of nine)

FAU(started football in 2001 moved to FBS in 2005) two winning seasons in FBS(out of six)

FIU(started football in 2002 moved to FBS in 2005) one winning season in FBS(out of six)

WKU(started football in 1908 moved to FBS in 2009) zero winning seasons in FBS(out of two)

Boise State is obviously the exception, there is more than likely not another Boise in the current crop, but the odds aren't good for there being more than one or maybe two schools that will even come close to being another Troy, Nevada, UCF or Marshall.

Georgia State may end up being good, but logic(and odds) point to them being a lot closer to UAB or Idaho than Troy or Nevada.

You should chase that Kool Aid with some Haterade. 03-razz

I'll take the haterade and buy you a warm glass of reality.

Idaho(started football in 1893 moved to FBS in 1997) three winning seasons in FBS(out of fourteen)

logic and odds points to the same for any startup including USA...but that is why they play the games

You forgot USF. Began football 1997, began FBS in 2001. Eight winning seasons out of 11. In total, 12 winning seasons out of 16.
