DENTON, Texas -- Sujay Lama and the North Texas tennis team officially capped off the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Championship season by awarding the members of the team and staff their rings and unveiling the championship banner Wednesday afternoon at the Waranch Tennis Complex.

In a speech before he began to hand out the rings to the support staff Lama noted that he waited until the day before the spring season began in order to remind the ladies of all they accomplished last year and make them want to work even harder to achieve the same goal this season.

The Mean Green is set to travel to Ft. Myers, Fla., tomorrow to start the spring season with the Florida Gulf Coast Invite. In reality, this is just one last tune-up before North Texas has to hit the ground running in dual match play.

It's first four opponents are ranked higher than the No. 66 Mean Green and all of which will either be on the road or at a neutral site.

Beginning that stretch will be the No. 22 Arkansas Razorbacks on Jan. 22 and the No. 59 Oklahoma State Cowboys on Jan. 23.

Five days after the Oklahoma State match, North Texas will travel to Berkeley, Calif., to take on the No. 10 Cal Bears and another ranked team (No. 41 St. Mary's or No. 51 TCU) in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, which is the first weekend on the National Indoor Team Championships.

The opportunity to improve on last season's Sun Belt Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance is well within grasp of this program. All that remains now is to go out on the court and win some of these early matches.

A sport where partial qualifiers are not allowed, therefore Troy can't play.

Good luck to UNT. My son plays high school tennis and loves it.
