I think that this years bowl wins as well as building momentum from last year is going to start helping the entire conference. I bet we start to see players that would normally go to an AQ school in hopes of being 2nd or 3rd string that will come to Sun Belt schools instead.

Lots of smoke on this from multiple sources it seems.

Im not holding my breath but if true it would be a HUGE deal.

Ideally Schnellenberger gets to coach his year in the stadium, while Shannon recrutis and gets a new stadium to pitch.

Hell if he can sell the kids to come to the U with the lack of facilities, he will be able to get some talent to come north to Boca with the shinny new stadium and facilities they have. I think it would be a great situation for all parties.

Would be huge get but doubt its true. I think Howard coaches until he doesnt want to.

Not disagreeing with you... I just wanted to point out that "The U" is a name in college football, just like a Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Texas, Nebraska, etc. Some kids will go there regardless based on name alone.

According to FAU Athletic Director Craig Angelos, they could be waiting a long time.

Angelos told me Wednesday afternoon nothing has changed concerning the future of the program.

“There’s nothing to that,” Angelos said. “We still have the same plan we have always had and that’s getting ready for the 2011 season. Eventually we will have to figure out past that, but we’re not to that point yet.”

This is the official line it seems, but most AD's usually deny, deny, deny on something like this until its a done deal. So the fact that he says they are getting ready for 2011 but doesnt include the line "and that does NOT include Randy Shannon" make me think this might be being discussed.

It really would make sense though. To Howard, FAU is his baby, he created it. And with him leaving whenever on his terms, it only seems he would want his baby handed to some someone he trusted. Shannon really fits the bill, it's just a matter of the fine details if this could really happen... until then, it is just a rumor!

LOL, certainly wasnt UNT with the smoke, they just passed the signal along. I think this all started from a Gator post/blogger and it spread from there.

In this day and age of Twitter/Message Board/Facebook it takes less then a nanosecond for something to go from talk to rumor.

This illustrates the worst of the Internet.

Some know-nothing Web blog or anonymous bulletin board poster mentions something out of his arse and a few people repeat it. Then a few of the more disreputable sports sites run without attribution simply to gain hits, and then some of the middle-of-the-road (sometimes reputable and sometimes full of it) Web media re-runs it as "rumor", and finally, the mainstream media jump on it. We're only awaiting the final step now.
