Let's analyze what is left
Here is who we persumably have coming next year, along with guesses as to positions they might be able to play, at least in a pinch, with his main position in bold type (all my guesses).

Neighbour 6-10 (3,4,5)
Gus 6-9 (4,5)
Marlo 6-7 (4,5)
White 6-7 (3,4)
Kibi 6-6 (4)
Courtney 6-6 (3,4)
Sutherland 6-3 (2,3)
Fondren 6-3 (1,2,3)
Williams 5-10 (1)
Chucky 5-10 (1,2)

If I added this up right we are lightest at the 2 and the 5. No surprise there. So, logically we would assume that that would be where we would put our emphasis. (However, illogically, since Shields seems to assume that anyone over 6-5 can play the 5, he probably won't get another 5.) Hopefully, he will get another shooting guard in the mix.

Assuming we sign Javes, there's our other 5, leaving two schollies left.

That is my hope. Get some height at the two spot.

Josh White is probably no more than 5'9" and he does pretty well shooting the ball. It would be nice to have some taller shooters, but if they have no quickness to get open on their own, they're no better than shorter shooters. So let's find some shooters. I don't care how tall they are.01-lauramac2

I wouldn't say that. Even if they don't have anymore quickness than the shorter guards, at least they're a couple of inches taller when shooting the ball when closely guarded, therefore they have a two inch less chance of the shot being blocked or tipped.

RE: Let's analyze what is left
I have found very few players who can effectively shoot a jump shot with hands in their faces, and bodies on theirs where they can't step into the shot, even by players a couple of inches shorter. Now if you're 6'5" or 6'6", then it might make a difference. Of course a Will Neighbour at 6'10" who can shoot the jump shot is gong to be difficult to prevent shooting by a 6 foot guard. I'll give you that.

RE: Let's analyze what is left
I assume you're kidding, but if you're not Josh White is the four year starter for North Texas who normally shoots lights out against us and most SBC opponents. For those of us who are old enough to remember Carl Brown, one of UALR's all time greats, he's sort of in that mode.

RE: Let's analyze what is left
The only player with more assists than White on the NT squad is Johnson, and he has started only 3 games. So, isn't White their starting point guard, not shooting guard? Just a question. I don't know.

He's a point guard who not only shoots but passes the ball.

Shame on me. I wasn't kidding. I don't do a really good job of keeping track of the other teams' players, except WKU, for some reason.

That's no shame. I just thought maybe you were pulling my leg. I don't know all the players from all the teams either. I just happen to be familiar with Josh because he's been so good against us. He's an all conference player.

So, you end up with:

pg William sr
SG chucky so
sf sutherland sr
pf WN so (rs)
c ?

Probably go with Courtney in a 2 pf look. That lineup is still built for speed and running.

Are we go any true shooting guards? Is the kid from South America on this list?
