Some truth to this...
Face it, there's a lot of truth to what TechAlum05 posted on the LaTech board-
The difference between the Sun Belt Conference and the MAC:
3 Sun Belt head coaches were fired in 2010 (Arkansas State, North Texas, ULL). None were hired by another school as a head coach.
3 MAC head coaches were hired by BCS AQ Conference schools. Only 1 fired in 2010.
Miami (OH): Mike Haywood hired by Pittsburgh
Northern Illinois: Jerry Kill hired by Minnesota
Temple: Al Golden hired by Miami (FL)

Of course the Sun Belt nearly lost a head coach last year and ponied up to prevent it from happening.

RE: Some truth to this...
While i agree that we need to catch up in many areas of coaching (salary?) I have to ask; is this really an issue? Is it indicative of success to any great extent? I mean it is a good point, but is it a real concern that we are able to retain our coaches for whatever reason? Yes even the MAC has many things that they can point to having a leg up over the Sun Belt, but most years these days, we do about as well on the field (yes I realize this year was bad). This is a point that if thought out doesn't really carry any consuquences. We will get where we are going as time permits.

I'm sure Blakeney could have left Troy already, but has deep roots in the area and that's where he'll stay. I know our old coach Boots Donnelly was offered several times to coach at 1-A programs, but chose to stay at his alma mater, for much less money.

But not to any AQ conference teams.
Chicken/egg scenario, but it seems that the SEC promotes from within, and doesn't often look outside of their close circle of assistants, former GAs, etc. (Uber successful non-AQ coaches excepted). The Big10 and BigEast look to div. 1 HC from the area (MAC). Al Golden is just darn good enough to get pulled to Miami.
And, this seems to go back to the SBC just not winning enough games. We have fewer FCS games (this year, at least), fewer conference teams to get those wins against (in unbalanced divisions), etc.
I'm just not sure what to think of this, but I know that the MAC has just about reached its potential, while the SBC (right behind the MAC) has a LONG way to go before reaching its pinnacle.

Wow, three coaches that had losing records didn't get head coaching jobs? Geez, I'm inpsired by his knowledge.
You are dead on. Three coaches fired but not hired by someone else. Amazing! You never see that happen!!! Three coaches who were pretty successful get hired away from their schools for new gigs vs three coaches fired for not winning enough. A vast pool of intellectual thought!!
Leach from Texas Tech didn't get rehired. Boy, he must be a terrible coach. Tuberville sat out a year.

What about the bottom of the MAC? Did all those coaches keep their jobs? But yes, good for the MAC (unless it was one of your coaches that was called up).

And another thing...
How long has the MAC existed as a conference?
I'd be willing to wage that none of their coaches in the first 10 years of the conference's existence were hired up by teams which would ultimately be what comprise the AQ elite.

MAC has been around since 1946 per the official MAC website.
