Thanks for the memories! I had the good fortune of watching Mix and company play ball while I was an undergrad at UT.

Here's one from September 2nd, 2000 I got to watch in person too.

Pretty cool stuff!!! I remember watching the Vegas Bowl on TV! The Penn St game is the best sporting event I have ever been at in-person in my life. Great articles for both games. The stats are impressive. I knew UT dominated Penn St, but to hold them to 166 yards of offense and 30 yards rushing, WOW! I was surprised to see how dominating the numbers were for UT's win over Nevada in the Vegas Bowl, especially since the game went to overtime.

Sent the link from the basketball article to my Dad, I am sure he will appreciate it, a little before my time.

I was hoping to find a story about this, but haven't found one yet. Back to 1979. Bloomington, Indiana.

Holy cow, Garwood (no offense) is the only one I don't readily recognize.

Iowa, the only name ringing a bell is Ronnie Lester.

September 20th, 2003.... Has to be one of the loudest roars Ive ever heard from the Glass Bowl when Gradkowski hit Lance Moore with 4 minutes left. I had no voice after that game. To this day, I can still here the silence of the throw and then the stadium just rocking seconds later.

It was even sweeter, because I was 18 at the time sitting infront of the parents of the Pittsburgh Panthers kicker, and they yelled at me to sit in the student section if i wanted to stand up... Then we scored....

Magic Johnson, two Falcons and a Rocket.

Bombing the Russians

OT: for older baseball fans

While looking up info for the above, I came across this.

Reds vs. Phillies

You'll have to click and drag up a bit. Look at the names in that box score.

Flowers is an occasional attendee at Rocket games. I like to point out his closet Rocketfandom which he denies but I had to be the guy who told him when BG hired Orr. He had no idea. Nice guy.

Would have like to see him stay at Macomber. They would have been monster in 76.

I couldn't find one. Typical bucknuts conspiracy, Google News has a preview about Neshaun Coleman but doesn't have the day after's scanned. Wish they did. I'd like to know why he had so little playing time.

Good stuff. Love seeing the old newspaper clippings. Memories!!!

Does anyone remember a publication the Blade put out called 'The Unbeatable Rockets'? It had all the game stories (at least) from their 35-game winning streak.

Oh for a PDF of that.

PDF's of classic programs of years gone by would be ultra cool as well.

TJRocket has a thread with scans of his copy.

Unbeatable Rockets

A memorabilia site said it was a UT publication.

I have a couple links to SI articles about that team but was saving them for future use.

Flower's wife works at UT and at one time they had season tickets.

Excellent! I distinctly remember the pic of Ealey handing the ball off.

It could have been a UT publication but I'm 99.9% it had Blade articles, stats, and box scores in it.

Thanks!!

I was there because my cousin played on that team. My family lived near UT at that time and we had the team over for a party after the game. I got to play a little basketball with them in the driveway.

A few years ago I talked to the current president and general manager at the Blade and aske him to look into the possibility of republishing in honor of the 35th anniversary of the 35-0 streak. Must not have made too much of an impression, because it never happened and I never heard anything more about it.
