DNJ article:Fans weapon in bowl bid battle

excerpt:

Quote:...Sun Belt commissioner Wright Waters said MTSU's past ticket sales and approach to bowls have helped it gain priority in bowl bids in the league.

"Middle has sold tickets and been a good citizen when it's gone to bowls, and bowls want institutions like that," Waters said. " ... (MTSU athletic director) Chris Massaro knows how to go to a bowl. So when Middle went to Detroit, they made sure to represent themselves well, let the bowl know how much they wanted to be there and they sold tickets.

"So when the New Orleans Bowl was looking at Middle last year, the foundation was already laid."....

This is no surprise. Some fans have taken it personal, but the bottom line is fan support, hence ticket sales.04-rock

I have to say that I can't beieve that two Sun Belt teams went 6-6 and went bowling. I never thought this day would arrive. I remember watching crappy AQ teams go at 6-6 while good Sun Belt teams stayed home at 6-6. ULM, ULL and others should have gone to bowl games in the past and didn't get the chance. Maybe now that attitudes have changed they and others will be recognized.

Now we need to prove that we deserve to have 3 teams bowling this year!

I would comment, but I've already been told that I have to worry about my own school's problems. 05-stirthepot

Attendance, however, is not one of them.02-13-banana

Agreed...we need to win two of the three at least.
