Doesn't look good for the WAC . . .

RE: WAC Losing Basketball Auto Bid?
If that comes to pass then at the very minimum WAC hoops are decimated for a decade.

How do you sell recruits when you don't have a hope of postseason?

Does Denver reconsider?

And gaining other members would be pretty much out of the question wouldn't it?

Would three years without a bid push La. Tech / Utah State / NMST to the Sunbelt (assuming that CUSA or MWC do not offer any of them and that the Belt was interested?)

If that happens I say we push'em back.

I get the feeling the Sun Belt might not want to add any of them. Didn't Utah State leave on a sour note or something like that?? I don't know the story behind it. Can someone elaborate? I know the whole LaTech ordeal though.

Utah State made a really big show out of leaving and really played it off like they were slected to the WAC because they were clearly better then Sun Belt competition.

That being said, they make no sense in the SBC now. La Tech and NMSU are stretches enough.

I still say we are better off inviting NMSU and one of the FCS Texas schools should we wish to expand, let La Tech rot

SBC could put the final nail in the coffin with an invite to NMSU. Would be fun to watch La Tech if that happened.

My understanding was that rule had already been changed. If not, I'm sure the WAC given its longevity will get a waiver. WAC has some "options" - though they're bad options:

Stick more to the West with Seattle U. (the most developed program available), Cal St.-Bakersfield, and Utah Valley or go more into the Central TZ with UT-Pan American and Houston Baptist.

No, it has not completely passed yet. The momentum for passage went away after the Big XII stopped exploding. The NCAA leaves themselves open to a huge lawsuit if they treat one conference differently than any other regardless of the age of the conference.

No, the NCAA gives waivers for all sorts of things. There's no "equal protection" for athletic conferences.

The best move for the SBC would be to invite NMSU and UTSA. I have a feeling that if CUSA was to lose a team and not be able to get Temple to move over from the MAC that UNT would get offered. They are probably the best fit given area, budget and facilities enhancement. Adding UTSA and NMSU would keep us in Texas and place in the Mountain Time Zone so that we can schedule some later night games. I do not see Tech getting it due to the uncertainty that the Louisiana schools are facing with the state's budget issues...and, as one of the CUSA member school's president has already stated, "they (La Tech) do not fit the criteria for CUSA membership."

RE: WAC Losing Basketball Auto Bid?
so the WhACk will now look like:

Idaho
La Tech
New Mexico State
San Jose State
Utah State
--------
UTSA
Texas State
Denver

03-puke

they should go back to Montana/Montana State and see if they would move up as a duo...they may go for that.
