Which Sunbelt team travels best to away games?
Maybe this has been asked before, but does anyone know which Sunbelt team travels best to away games? I know WKU had a surprisingly good number of people at the Troy game.

We wouldn't know how many fans from Troy come to MT or vice versa because we always play on Tuesday night.

The story is that ASU has always traveled well. But most of that comes from our alums in the area of the game...

No one travels well to Troy. There are always very few visiting Belt fans in attendance. Is that because all of you refuse to travel to see your teams lose? 05-stirthepot

Fixed for you.

This conference flat out sucks in terms of travel to opposing venues. No one has any room to brag on this and there will be no trophy.

What do I think of sunbelt fans traveling to see their team? I think it's a good idea.

Not from what I saw at Cajun Field this year. Our largest attendance from a visiting team was easily Ok. State. They probably brought as much as stAte, MT, WKU, and FIU combined.

No one wins this debate "easily" or otherwise.

Well yeah, but Ok State isn't in the Sun Belt. We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one because I think it's pretty evident which fan base travels the best.

RE: Which Sunbelt team travels best to away games?
To many variables in this argument. We all have too small of a traveling fanbase to overcome certain variables. For example MT always plays it's three closest conference foes in the same year. In 2008 I made 10 out of 12 games because we had five road games that were within 500 miles. WKU, ASU, Louisville, Kentucky and Mississippi State were all very reasonable drives.

For a lot of fans, what conference games you travel to depends largely on what your OOC slate looks like. I've been to MT road games that we traveled to in the thousands and I've been to MT road games where we've had a little over 100.

In general, MT is one of the best traveling fan bases in the conference, but we all have room for improvement and we're all just an unexpectedly bad season from being one of the worst traveling fan bases in the conference.

FAU always travels well....to play FIU. Other then that FAU sends a few friends and family to other SBC venues. In our defense, we are further from the rest of the Belt teams then most...and we get very few visiting teams fans at our place....but you are all welcome to head to Boca next year to see our new stadium!

From what I've seen here, Troy always sends the most to our games, although that isn't saying much...usually its about one or two hundred people, and probably mostly because they recruit in South Florida and their kids have family coming to see them play.

I went to the game at Lockhart in 2007 and we probably had 100 or so fans there. I will make a trip to the new stadium at some point, don't know if it will be next year or not though. I hope to take in one of the two new stadiums next year.

Of course they aren't. All I'm saying is road travel in this conference flat out sucks.

And you're correct, it does suck. But lets be honest, home attendance in the Sun Belt sucks too. I was just answering the question this thread provided.

The FAU comment was funny to me because the Owls probably brought more fans to Troy than any other program, in the year they won the Sun Belt title. On a regular basis, it's probably MTSU.

Troy travels very well to places like Fort Lauderdale and Miami and the full or pep (100 to 300-plus people) bands usually go as well, making the numbers even larger.

I scratch my hand wondering why FIU travels so poorly to FAU for the Shula Bowl, even when it was held in Miami Gardens (Dolphin Stadium), a quick trip for Panther fans. On the other hand, FAU fans pack FIU stadum every time the game is played there.

As for the best team in terms of travel, at least this year it was MTSU, in my opinion.

Were you this year at Lockhart? I thought FIU brought the largest contingent of fans ever to the Shula Bowl at FAU's field, including the games played at Joe Robbie Stadium. I guess losing teams make it a lot harder to make fans to go to games? Example, FIU outdrew FAU in average attendance played at their "true" home field, this year.

Sadly, I think BGSU brought more fans to Troy this year than any of our SBC opponents.

If FIU brought more fans to Lockhart this year, good for them. But you folks just haven't embraced this "rivalry" the way everyone expected. It's a shame. The atmosphere in this game could be great. The games have been great. Use it while you can and maybe someday Miami will let you in the door.

Oh, and I know all Sun Belt teams fudge the attendance numbers (from a little to a lot), but FIU appears to have the greatest discrepancy between reported attendance and actual butts in the seats.

So you weren't there to see it this year, as a lot of FAU fans in their board were talking about the great atmosphere out there. And I would surmise your "discrepancy" factor is greater in FAU than FIU this year.....it's a matter of subjectiveness on your part, and my part. Again, blame it partly on losing, as I'm sure you know how fickle South Florida fans are, especially if you are losing and are a new team to boot. I have no doubt, again, FIU outdrew FAU this season, no matter what method you used.

I was there, early and the FIU numbers did not seem much out of the ordinary. But it was early.

I would put the FAU and FIU attendance on par this season.
