MBB 2011-12: Non divisional play? Please?
Next year, with Denver leaving and the 150/no sub D-1 rules in place... Has there been any announcement about us abandoning divisional play and just doing a round-robin 20 game league schedule?

More league games means that schools of limited resources don't have to spread the money they'd spend on home games (particularly now that they can't be D-2 or NAIA schools) as thin and may actually be able to improve their overall non-conference schedule. That also makes it easier to comply with the 150 rule without surrendering to a season of road trip death sentences. Trying to schedule 8 or 9 OOC games would be a lot easier than trying to fill 12 or 13 slots.

It also gives every school a guaranteed foundation of 10 D-1 home games. It seems pathetic to say that... But ULM and Troy only have a total of 11 this year. FIU and ASU only have 12.

If nothing else... a 20 game conference schedule means 4 fewer opportunities for some teams to drag us down in conference RPI. And it avoids any need for convoluted tiebreakers applied in the most mentally defective way imaginable.

I haven't heard or read anything about future conference scheduling from the league office yet... Any word on what the plan is going forward?

Great idea! Let's penalize teams that can actually schedule well and make them play a few more crappy league games.

I would love it but the WKU poster has a legit objection. Their schedule this year is very good with only one real weakling on the schedule.

The other objection WKU might post is that they would actually have to play UNT in Denton. Through this seaon, we will have played them at WKU three years in a row. H-H was even before that.

In the long run this strategy should help increase the league strength overall, which will, in turn, help the individual schools.
I'd be for it.

I wouldn't be thrilled with it from a North Texas perspective, either... Except that the overall RPI of other league teams wouldn't be as terrible. The penalty in regards to marquee opponents for stronger schools is balanced out by the fact that if the teams at the bottom are going to lose, at least they'll be losing to each other. Which is an RPI neutral proposition for the rest of the league.

We'll come to Denton as soon as Denver comes to Bowling Green.

Denver is leaving next year and somehow I suspect you still won't come to Denton. 05-stirthepot

The fact that we're even having this friendly "argument" shows how completely inept the conference office is. I mean, how hard can it be to simply flip home and away for non-division games every year?

What's the 150/ no sub D1 rule?

Is that a Sun Belt scheduling thing?

Conference office does NOT make the schedule. The same firm out of Atlanta that does the NFL's scheduling, does the Sun Belt.

I think he's referring to some OOC scheduling requirement the SBC may be kicking-in next year. No sub D1 opponents and all opponents stronger than a 150 RPI rating....but I'm not sure.

We've beaten WKU 3 times in our history - and that includes our win last season. I'd say that you own us.
