Roberts has been told he will not be retained and the team is expected to name Hugh Freeze as Interim Head Coach, while a search is organized, but most fans and players believe that Freeze will be given the Job outright after leading ASU's offense to such succesful numbers last year
So ASU is terminating Roberts, but promoting from within? So you are not going to do a search or interview any other coaches period?
We are in a search period but I think the administration will have a full-blow revolt if they don't hire Freeze. Guy is a ball of fire, annually gives motivational speeches at FedEx, turned our offense completely around (Aplin didn't even practice in the spring when the offense was installed and is 19th in total offense and 41st in pass efficiency) (he and Malzahan are big buds and worked on this offense for years). He was Orgeron's recruiting coordinator at Ole Miss and then went to Lambuth as head coach turned them totally around in two years and became the o-coordinator at SJSU then quit before coaching a game to take the same gig at ASU.

Not knocking Coach Freeze, he is well respected. Just was interested in hearing what was stated at the press conference.

Oh that's easy.
Coach Roberts has resigned, high praise for work at ASU and personal character, buyout from Red Wolf Club, national search, move quickly, list of attributes desired in new coach, blah and blah and blah blah.
Pretty standard presser.

Really not bad coaches at all. Noticed that Arkstfan posted on The Den that he felt that UNT picked up a good one.

Roberts' contract in 2009 had a base of $140,000 and after all endorsements and all it was worth $220,162. I am not sure if the contract changed for this past year.

RE: ASU fires Roberts
Arkansas State has a history of selective poverty.
At the end of the 1995 season John Bobo asked for a budget boost to improve assistant pay. ASU's response was we're broke and cannot afford anything but cost of living raises. A year later after he was let go, the top three assistants under Joe Hollis were given salaries equal to what Bobo had made as head coach.
After the 2001 season when Hollis was let go, Arkansas State made a very fat offer (for the time) to try to get Jim Leavitt from South Florida (our AD had been their AD). When Leavitt turned it down after extorting some additional capital expenditures from USF, the top pay at ASU suddenly fell by $150,000 or $200,000 for Roberts vs. Leavitt.
When Dickey Nutt got hired (same spring Bobo could only get a COLA raise), ASU couldn't afford to buy out Catalina and hire a new coach, so Nutt got the job for assistant salary of like $50,000. A year later with Cat still being paid they found enough to pay him like $85,000. The next year he tied for the conference and suddenly ASU could afford $115,000 a year. A year later he goes to the NCAA Tournament and ASU realizes they've got enough to pay $225,000 a year (at the time the biggest contract in league history by a decent margin).
When Jerry Ann Winters was women's basketball coach ASU couldn't afford a raise or multi-year contract. She basically left for same money plus a car to South Alabama who would give a multi-year. When ASU replaced her with Jeff Mittie, they found a few thousand dollars more, a car, and suddenly liked multi-year contracts.
Based on that history, I would never dare guess what ASU could afford if the mood struck.

School Chancellor said in an interview today that he expects us to have a new coach in place by the end of the week.
Unless he's lying, I cant imagine how it could be anyone other then Hugh Freeze, the school to my knowledge has had zero non internal interviews to this point

I guess the recruits responded positively to the idea of Freeze being HC. If he is named HC I expect he will also be the OC, at least for another year.

It's not official, but it appears we will be announcing Freeze as the new HC this afternoon.
