WAC DEAD??
Jerry Palm says MWC offering Hawaii football only. Big West earlier said they are considering adding member... guessing Hawaii.

WAC loses auto bids if true.

If this happens, does it have any affect on Denver's departure?

Hawaii Gone.

UH To Join Mountain West For Football
Hawaii To Be Part Of Big West For Other Sports

HONOLULU -- The University of Hawaii will join the Mountain West Conference for football, sources confirmed to KITV4.

The move comes on the heels of top Western Athletic Conference teams leaving the conference. Boise State, Nevada and Fresno State bolted for the MWC.

Hawaii will be part of the MWC just for football. It will be part of the Big West Conference for the other sports, sources told KITV4 Sports.

RE: WAC DEAD??
Who knows what's next.

Denver's situation depends on whether there is a WAC. If the WAC can't scrape up another football school, UTSA and Texas State can't move to FBS because the new rules require an invite from an FBS league. If they don't join WAC is left with Idaho, USU, NMSU, SJSU, Tech and Denver.

So Arkansas State Fan...

I know you had been back and forth on the issue before, but where do you currently stand on the whole "invite one of the current WAC members" and kill the WAC issue now?

EDIT: And I don't even mean exclusively Tech. Could be either or both of the Texas schools, or NMST also.

Benson trying to screw up leagues across the country to keep his job. Let's see he screwed up the MWC, WAC, tried to screw up CUSA and now SBC.

Just go away Benson.

Now the MWC is at 11 members. Will BYU stay in the conference or will Montana get an invite to the MWC?

What's in it for us?

Tech isn't adding any significant TV viewership or getting us another NCAA Tournament bid.

Unless ESPN is looking for someone to fill the void in weeknight games, there just isn't a financial benefit sitting out there.

Do you take a remote school that raises your travel costs who only called because they were dead in that water? For that matter do you take a local in that situation? If you didn't feel the desire to add UTSA or Texas State a month ago, what has changed other than their despair?

Who says they will have 11?

Big East is looking to expand and TCU widely regarded as most likely candidate.

What about the whole thing about dividing the money fewer ways?

And what about driving up the market value of $$$ games by forcing teams out of 1A?

Or heck... how about doing it to spite Tech?

arkstfan,

I remember you posting that if Texas State could actually afford the WAC, then that is more than enough to show we are committed and therefore, should be considered by the Sunbelt..

So,

PLEASE let us in

RE: WAC DEAD??
Nice reminder why I shouldn't have felt bad about Graham Watson. She posted on Twitter that she thinks UNT going WAC would be a decent move for UNT. Won't believe the NCAA rule book that WAC has 5 year waiting period to regain auto bid in hoops.

RE: WAC DEAD??
If we expand, im all for inviting Texas State and leaving La Tech there to rot. While TSU doesnt offer much for the league at all, they offer more then Tech does

She hasn't a clue. Poor gal.

What she wrote to ArkStFan after he gave her the actual NCAA Rule Number:

Quote:@ArkSt_com The NCAA told me awhile back that it recognizes a group of six as a conference. It's eight for football. So autobids intact.

RE: WAC DEAD??
The NCAA also has a rule that in order for a conference to exist it must have at least 5 members who have been in the league at least 5 full years.

Which means if San Jose State New Mexico State Louisiana Tech Utah State or Idaho leave the WAC anytime between now and 2017 the league ceases to exist according to NCAA rules
