Would you please stop using the FAU vs Michigan St in the attendance count. Same goes for ULM vs Arkansas. Those games are not home games and should not be counted for attendance IMO.

RE: Attendance
The thing is they are home games for attendance purposes. So yes they should count. I believe one of the USA posters tracks it without those games.

So for the NCAA they count. FAU's logo was on the field in Detroit as well.

In other news FAU's butts in the seats count was probably 8K-9K. Student section was not very filled and I dont think the game was promoted much.

I expect more will be there for the Troy game.

I am not hating on him, aside from the fact that those numbers are misleading. FAU and ULM fans don't get you panties in a wad because you use Michigan State and Arkansas fans to count as your own.

I can understand falsely reporting numbers ie Troy vs ULM, but to use attendance from a game that has less than 5% of the total attendance support the "home team" is ridiculous.

But that's not true, the outside world doesn't perceive it as those games counting for you, no one no matter how deaf, blind or stupid would believe that a team from Florida was playing at "home" in Detroit Michigan against Michigan state, or that a team from Louisiana was the "home" team when playing a team from Arkansas in Arkansas. In fact, I think that if it does anything, it hurts the perception of your school and makes it seem like a desperate attempt to generate attendance. You can use those numbers if you like because it is legal, but the "actual" numbers give a much more accurate representation of how big your fan base actually is.

Point one.
Don't like how it's counted. Call MTSU's president, last time I checked he was our representative on the NCAA Board of Directors.

Point two.
FAU paid to rent Ford Field. FAU paid a guarantee to Michigan State. FAU paid ALL costs associated with the game (see thread in pre-season about FAU spending basically its entire football marketing budget on the game). FAU had planned that Michigan State would be the opening game of their new stadium but their state board kept jacking up their stadium plan (with help from the real estate collapse that hurt their first plan). FAU was put in a bad situation and forced to choose between renting the Dolphins stadium or renting Ford Field, they took the one that would generate the most money. That's free enterprise.

Point three.
I resent the hell out of the deal ULM has with Arkansas but that has nothing to do with ULM but rather hearing Arkansas talk about how they shouldn't have to play ASU because they don't run a welfare program.

Actually few people who don't read this board have any idea FAU was the home team and even fewer know that about ULM.

All irrelevant at this point since the NCAA no longer has the 15,000 rule in place. I have no problem with schools playing at a neutral site if it is financially viable for their program. Regardless of what the NCAA allows, actual home field attendance is the true measure of fan support and neither has much of it.

I suggest you take another look at the Division I Manual before saying there is no 15,000 rule.

What the NCAA allows, freaking matters. I can sit here all day and complain that 6-6 isn't bowl worthy and teams with losing records that win three or four in a row in a conference tournament shouldn't be in the NCAA Tournament but at the end of that... doesn't matter, the rules are what matters.

As to "true measure" of support, I don't buy it. WKU offered massive discounts to insure they could meet attendance standards. Do a plethora of $5 tickets sold indicate greater fan support than selling a slightly smaller number of $10 or $20 tickets? Would you rather have 14,000 fans willing to pay $15 a ticket or 20,000 willing to pay $5? Do you want 15,000 buying $10 tickets with only 1,000 that donate to the program or would you say that a school that sells 15,000 $10 tickets but has 3,000 donors has better fan support?

What if two schools each sell 18,000 tickets but one of those totals includes 4,000 deeply discounted corporate buys?

Look we get it. You've got a beef with ULM and the UA deal. I've got a beef with it, just a different one that you have but bear this in mind. The numbers you see reported on the NCAA web site. Those aren't the official numbers. No official numbers are even submitted to the NCAA until after the bowls. As they say in ads for certain products and services, those numbers are for entertainment purposes only. You don't like 'em don't click on a link that says "ATTENDANCE".
