Tailgating in the SBC
Received a PR release from state that shows the growth in tailgating at stAte. What is happening at other SBC schools?

Release: 10/29/2010

JONESBORO, Ark. (10/29/10) – The popularity of Dental Solutions Tailgate City continues to grow outside ASU Stadium. The large, tent-filled area west of the stadium creates a family friendly, entertaining atmosphere for pre-game excitement.

With additional tents and corporate tailgaters, the 2010 football tailgating season has been another banner year, reaching a capacity 37 tents Oct. 2 when the Red Wolves hosted Louisville for Homecoming.

“Every open space was taken prior to the Homecoming game against Louisville,” said Doug Doggett, Associate Athletic Director for External Operations and Director of the Red Wolf Club. “That includes not only Tailgate City, but also Red Wolf Run, the area around the pavilion, the old track and spaces all the way to the baseball parking lot.”

RE: Tailgating in the SBC
MT has had the two main tailgating areas (Walnut Grove for mainly students and Greenland Dr. area including "RV Row" mostly populated by older alumni) filling in nicely. As those areas fill in, you see other families and groups spreading out around these areas and between them and the stadium. Basically, the entire "old" part of our campus has someone tailgating on it within sight.

It was good when I began attending (2004) and now its exploding. You can see some pics in the "Gameday Scenery" thread. http://ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=450700 I'm sure some other MT fans have some pics with a higher vantage point. I've seen 'em out there.

Hey FIU Panther Fan, I really like that video. I think it's cool how the students paint the claw marks on the face, that is sooooo cool. Definitly should become an FIU tradition, you don't see that a lot. Could become an unofficial symbol.

ULM's "The Grove" is completely sold out of spots this year. All that is available for people that don't have a reserved spot is the area across the road by the bayou. I honestly think ULM has one of if not the best tailgate areas in the SBC.

Yeppers!!!

I think everyone knows where the best tailgaiting in the league is. There are over 130 reserved tailgaiting spots at UL, plus the RV spaces, and there are waiting lists for both areas.

And not many of those folks just bring Popeye's Chicken and call it tailgaiting.

There is plenty of grass areas to tailgate on. Better to have an actual tailgating experience second to none in the SBC, then a empty pecan grove with squirrels. It ain't even close!

RE: Tailgating in the SBC
Did you not read earlier that the grove has been sold out of spots for every game this year?

Also, what makes one tailgating place better than another. I would imagine every school in the belt has live bands playing, students doing their thing, players and bands walking through, etc. What is something that makes tailgating different from one place to another.

I know one of my favorite traditions as a member of the ULM band was that while we were marching pregame through the grove, we would always stop at the group of port-a-johns and play the fight song into them. We got some pretty funny reactions from the drunks in them.

We were already planning road trips for next year. Well, not planning but talking about options. As soon as the Troy game ended, I told Dad we're never going to Monroe because I want a chance of seeing Troy win. He said the food/tailgating would probably be better at Lafayette anyways, and that is a road game for us next year. And WKU is near Bourbon country, so we may hit those two next year.

RE: Tailgating in the SBC
our tailgating has taken a hit since the University finished the new Fraternity Row. traditionally we had all the greeks tailgating in one of our quads. they would set up giant tents and sometimes there would be a rock band for the crowd. Since the houses were finished all the fraternities have been tailgating at their houses rather than on campus with the rest of the fanbase. It's made a significant impact on gameday atmosphere.

I'm pretty angry about all of it.

They have those nice flatscreens tuned to the Bama game in the privacy of their own house..... 05-stirthepot

We rarely tailgate. We've done it a few times, but mostly if we get to campus early we'll hit up the bookstore, walk around and talk to a few friends, and make it into the stadium early.

Possum and I now have an official Krew. We tailgate infront of Hawkins Hall right up on the street now. Why don't yall stop by the next home game? I'll get ya fed and we can talk some Trojan football before kickoff.

Will do. Homecoming isn't far away.

And I wasn't referring to your Fraternity with that comment, although we've joked about it in the past. The new houses are nice. I went in one of them during the stAte game and they had the TV tuned to Bama-Arkansas.

Yeah, every house has its brothers who just aren't going to get on board. They hold out wearing their bamma or barn hats and state they can't turn their backs on their life long team like that. Generally we gave them a hard time at the DX house, but they're everywhere among the greeks.
