RE: FAU Radio Announcer Goes Nuts
Here's a quote from him that I found on wikipedia.

"I want our audience to be informed, but beyond that I want them to be happy, be sad, and be angry too, just not at the same time. I will guarantee at times our listeners will be right by my side and other times they will be mad at me. I wouldn't have it any other way."

According to Ted Hutton at South Florida Sun Sentinel. The Matter was handled internally by FAU AD and that he will not be fired or suspended. He will be calling the Shula Bowl this weekend.

Officiating was no worse than any other Saturday. As I've said before watch TV some Saturday, officiating isn't a Sun Belt issue its a college football issue.

Aplin's status is unknown for the MT game because he took what could have been called a late hit on ASU's final TD.

If an announcer is trashing a town and team, I think I'll pass on considering him respected and offering to fight pretty much tells me all I need to know. Unless there has been some drastic change since I worked with the ASU radio network the visiting announcers are between the visiting coaches and the print media so he was either going to rumble with FAU coaches or the print media.

The officiating is a Wright Waters issue! He has the authority to address it in the SBC and he hasn't. Dave Lamont and Jay Walker are both correct on their opinions. Its high time people stop soft handling Wright Waters, he has shown himself to be incompetent in contract negotiations and holding officiating to higher standard in the Sun Belt.

Waters is also poor at marketing, promoting the Sun Belt brand, media relations (getting us more TV, radio and satellite slots), advertising (Sun Belt TV ads are HORRIBLE), and supporting programs by, for example, being at the effective championship game (and not some BCS conference).

Officiating has gone from horrible to pathetic this year. I say scrap our own officials and hire them from another league.

I agreed with most of what Lamont said and I appreciate his care for the FAU program. He just went way, way too far. Most of us who acted that way in our jobs wouLd have been FIRED, FIRED, FIRED on the spot.

The thing was - if I have the correct play - the officials got that call correct. It wasn't helmet to helmet and the QB wasn't sliding.

I didn't see the call, so I'm not arguing for or against it. The larger picture is the state of Sun Belt officiating and the lack of action taken to address it by Commissioner Wright Waters.

RE: FAU Radio Announcer Goes Nuts
Coach Stockstill received a letter after the Georgia Tech game, apologizing for a blown call. We had held GaTech (down 14-7) in their first drive of the second half. We ran the ball 30 or so yards to midfield and they called a phantom holding call on us, moving us back to the 10 yard line. I believe we turned it over and GaTech went up 21-7 and the beating began.

Those were our SBC refs in Atlanta.

I understand, but letters of apology have been sent out in the past. They do not account for action taken by the SBC on specific crews or officials. And there are no press releases attached to notify SBC members that some type of action has taken place to address ongoing performances by certain crews or specific officials.

Maybe we can hire the crew from last Monday night's NFL game. They only had two calls overturned in the first quarter.

I'm not saying there aren't problems with Sun Belt officiating but I watch enough football to know that EVERYONE is struggling with the issue, not just the Belt though you'd think the Sun Belt was alone in this from reading league fans, of course go to some SEC boards and you'd think they are the only league with an issue.

I know for a fact of three admitted errors by the Big XII that only became public because a coach revealed the secret letter, in two of the cases the coaches involved were privately punished for revealing the information. In the third, they didn't have jurisdiction over Steve Roberts and couldn't do anything about him telling, though I noticed that he didn't reveal the suspension of a Big XII official after a later game.
